Crossovers - 1 book for multiple challenges?

I have signed up for practically everything, because I can't help myself. I'm totally ok with crossovers. A lot of the challenges have me reading books I wouldn't normally gravitate towards and the books that are big and I've been avoiding, so even if I use them in more than one challenge, I'm widening my reading horizons.
The planning of crossovers is a big part of the fun for me! It's like a book-based strategy game, or some type of bookish Scrabble. I especially love finding a "high point value" book that counts for 3, 4, or more challenges! I probably get far more excited over this aspect of yearly/quarterly planning than I should, but hey - small pleasures are often the best kind. :)
YES - I just knew (or rather hoped), that I wouldn't be the only one! :)Maxine, I have the greatest urge to sign up for everything as well - I think, I will go ahead and join the ones, I actually managed to stop myself from entering...
Cool, Marcus - I totally buy that argument!
And Candiss, I LOVE the planning of the crossovers just like you!
But right now I am in trouble - I want to change a couple of choices, but then my neat strategy will fall apart - arghhh...
Right, back to the drawing board!!! :)
How many challenges do you normally join?"Officially" I joined 5, but then I have a couple of my own... But now I am considering postponing my own ones and joining a few more in the group = more planning, WOHOO :)
I'm with Candiss. I love planning what I can read to cover multiple challenges. I have lots of plans for next year already and can't wait for it to be 2017! I'm waiting to see what the monthly challenges are to decide where to start!
I also love trying to find books that fit as many challenges at a time as possible. It's a scavenger hunt through my massive (over 6K and counting) TBR!
I plan to cross-list books for the yearly challenges, but do people cross-list for the monthly and quarterly challenges, too? How about for Twin and Buddy and Group reads? I want to fit in with the group culture and do what others do. Thanks!
I don't allow crossovers for myself because I think it goes against my goal of reading more and trying new books. I'm careful with what I pick to make it realistic, and I'm also flexible with the timeline on some of the minor challenges I pick. I do the GoodReads ATY and PopSugar challenge within the year, and I'm also taking on the BookRiot Read Harder challenge and possibly last year's PopSugar Summer challenge. Those two are a little more open to a longer timeline.
In the past, I haven't cross-listed books for yearly challenges, but I have used one book for a yearly, quarterly, and monthly challenge. This year I'm excited for a ton of the yearly challenges, so I'm allowing myself to count books for more than one. To be honest, I think it's going to make yearlies a lot more fun than in past years!
I have a few books that I'm planning to read in 2017 that will count toward more than one challenge. I did the same thing in 2016. I don't consider it "cheating" since I read a lot anyway!
I love to do crossover challenge. I give more points to myself when I can use the book in more than three challange (my points are translate in food, usually chocolates :) ) So crossovers for me are not only ok but encourage...
I use my books across multiple challenges. My only rule is not using the book for more than one prompt in the same challenge.
Actually, I should specify that the only crossovers I allow are in the monthly challenges in a group like this. I apply the books I'm already reading to the prompt lists that come up, but I wouldn't use the same book for multiple prompts in different challenges.
This is why I love this group: there is room for everyone! :)I joined my first real challenges this year - without any crossovers. The goal was a little low and I finished them a couple of months ago. WAY too soon for my new found love of reading challenges....
So to avoid that happening in 2017, I will plan lots of crossovers, that can always be changed to other/new books towards the end of the year, should I again finish early.
Thank you for helping me find my own compromise! :-D
Although I have been doing the annual reading challenge for three years now, 2017 will by my first year for this group. I have entered several challenges and have books on my ever growing TBR that would work as crossovers for them. I can see how it will take some strategy to get the most out of them. I love strategy games and am a chess master, so this should be fun.

In my eager to join as many as possible, I have found a lot of books, that work for more than one challenge and I know it is allowed... But what do YOU do?
I just realized, that I could never finish all my challenges, if I don't allow for crossovers, but doesn't that just mean, that I have signed up for too much?
Would love to hear your opinion :)
