Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Hey there and welcome!
Please, feel free to leave a comment if you wish, letting me know you stopped by :) Book recommendations & suggestions are also greatly appreciated! :)

I had originally planned on reading 5 books between the time I joined Goodreads (in September) and the end of the year. Since that's not happening, my goal for the remainder 2016 is much simpler: to finish the two books am currently reading.
The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons & Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments DECEMBER LOG :

15/12: My plan of finishing both The Glass Arrow & Uglies before the end of the year has been recalculated. As much as it saddens me, I've decided to take a break from the Uglies series for now. I just can't seem to get into it again.. too many distractions, maybe? I dont know why, it's just not grasping me at the moment I guess.
For the remainder of 2016 I'll be working on finishing "The Glass Arrow" and hopefully I won't have to carry it over to 2017.

17/12: As of today, I am all set with my challenges for 2017. For now at least... I plan on participating in 4 annual challenges & a group read in January. However, I still haven't decided whether I'll be partaking in more challenges. I might already be way in over my head

20/12: I know it's the novelty of it all but I keep wanting to sign up for more challenges! I have left room to play so I can always do so later in the year.

24/12: Haaaaallelujaaaah! I finally finished The Glass Arrow. For some reason it feels as if I've been reading this for a long time (of course everything is relative) but I started reading December 4th. I will be jotting down my thoughts and opinions on this book at another time ... But I can say I really enjoyed it!

26/12: I am considering starting The Handmaid's Tale next since I've heard it's comparable to "The Glass Arrow" but I won't be able to purchase it until next Friday...What to do? What to do?

Lynette Caulkins | 147 comments Whoop! Whoop! (for finishing The Glass Arrow) 2016 was my year to get back into the regular habit of reading books instead of always "sitting" on social media or playing brain games. It was a little harder to step back from the electronics than I'd anticipated, but I'm really happy with the success of the exercise. It definitely helped to have the list challenges that I'd printed out back in January. This year I'm looking forward to engaging in that process through this challenge section on the boards! It's nice to add a social aspect to the endeavor, you know?

I recognize the situation all but too well. Since I started university, my go-to-activity has been Youtube or streaming services like Netflix or HBO. Now after watching a lot of videos with book recommendations and whatnots I feel like I've been living under a rock!

A bit overwhelming all the books I want to catch up on, but have to keep it realistic, being a slow reader while having a busy schedule and all. I think the social aspects will do wonders - keep the motivation up.

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons
Completed: 24/12-16
"Once there was a time when men and women lived as equals, when girls were valued, and women could belong only to themselves. But that was ten generations ago. Now women are property, to be sold and owned and bred, while a strict census keeps their numbers manageable and under control... "

That right there - that setting in the synopsis is all I needed to know to be drawn in! Well... the cover didn't hurt!

I am normally apprehensive in regards to YA dystopian novels because of the copy-paste plots and themes. Furthermore, I can't stand it when a romantic aspect steals the attention from an otherwise interesting storyline.
However, this doesn't resemble the typical YA dystopian and I really enjoyed it! First of all, it's a standalone story! This book is not about changing the way of the world and there is no insta-love!

It is a bit slow paced at times but the plot and resolution are well executed. I loved the unique writing style, the premise, the well-developed characters and the intriguing twists and turns along the way. While the world building may not be 100% original it still stands out in this creative story.

It's pitched as being like two book, that I haven't read so I didn't exactly know what to expect. Honestly, the premise didn't rattle me as much as i thought it would, but that's probably due to the YA categorization.
Despite it all, I was completely engrossed throughout the story and look forward to reading more Kristen Simmons books!
