Please help me find this book about a toy soldier

I know this is a longshot but I have been looking for years for a book from about 25 years ago. My mother read it to me and we do not know the title. I think we read it around Christmas time. It is about toys that come to life. But there is a toy soldier or nutcracker that is bad and tries to kill the other toys. It is very well illustrated. I know he critically or fatal wounds a teddy bear. That is about all I remember of it. Thank you.

It sounds like it might be 'The Steadfast Tin Soldier' by H C Andersen
As Earnest pointed out, it is more than likely Hans Christian Andersen's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier."
