Gary (kaaserpent) | 6 comments This author (a friend of mine) added his book manually. At some point later, Amazon automatically added it again, but with SLIGHTLY different settings, so they showed up as two separate books. I was able to make them both editions of the same book, but ideally, I'd like to remove one of them, transferring any reviews, etc. to just one version. -- EDIT: I was able to delete the book without an ASIN and GoodReads assures me it's merging the reviews. Now the other question is all I have.

Also, his name is apparently fairly common, so he's been lumped into a bunch of other Stephen Pattersons' books, none of which are him. I know there's a way to fix that so he can set up an author profile page, but I've forgotten how it was done. Can someone guide me?

Arenda | 26447 comments I've merged (= deleted) the duplicate edition of the book and moved the book to a new Stephen Patterson profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
To claim that profile, the author can follow this link: https://www.goodreads.com/author/conf...

ETA: moving books to a new author profile with the same name is done by adding an extra space (or more when there are already multiple profiles) between first and last name of the author on the book edit page.

Gary (kaaserpent) | 6 comments Thanks, Arenda! I've let Steve know how to claim his profile.

message 4: by David (new)

David Manuel | 6 comments Greetings. I have the same name as a more famous author, David Manuel. Three items that are mine have been added to his profile.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21318512-the-killer-trees
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22386927-an-alligator-in-the-basement---2014-abna-entry
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

The first book is also on my profile. David E. Manuel The other two are old ABNA entries that I have never placed on my profile. But none of them should be linked to David Manuel, who wrote inspirational Christian fiction and non-fiction (and who sadly passed away in 2013). I doubt he would want to be associated with my noirish, sarcastic spy novels! Anyway, could someone could remove these items from his profile? Thanks.

Melanti | 761 comments I've updated the author for you.

Though there's got to be a way to more clearly indicate that the abna ones are excerpts only... I added a librarian note so they shouldn't get combined with the full books, but anyone not familiar with the abna award might get confused.

Thanks. And that's why I've never added any of those ABNA excerpts, especially since the full books are all available. If you know of a way to pull the entries off Amazon, I could try that so they don't keep showing up.

It's fine to label them as [Excerpt only], which I have done.

Also, it gets confusing when a thread linked to a specific book or author is also used for other books. I am closing this thread. Start new ones for other books.
