As far as I've updated my shelves ...I've read 153 books / 43,112 pages (but I'm reading a bunch of Caldecott-winning picture books ....)
Most popular book I read: The Girl on the Train with over a million other readers!
Least Popular: The Love Queen of the Amazon with only 39 other readers
The highest rated was: The Nightingale (definitely NOT by me .... kinda surprised that Make Way for Ducklings doesn't have a higher rating)

Of course, I'm still reading and adding books, but I don't think I'll have another book this month with a higher average rating or more popular (based on # of readers).

Some of these reading stats are blowing my mind!
I am at 120 books, 44,700 pages. That reflects a lot of doorstoppers, like The Last Lion part 3, a Churchill biography topping 1,200 ages.Most popular was Madame Bovary with 197K readers; least was Star Crossing, a sci fi with 8 readers.
The most highly rated was Chaos Imagined: Literature, Art, Science, with an average 5 stars. Sound too good to believe? It only had 3 ratings and 2 reviews. It was my first review of 2016, and I guess I didn't persuade anyone to read it.
My average rating was 3.9, meaning you guys and GR friends helped me find a lot of high star reads.
https://www.goodreads.com/user/year_i...I read 49 books, for a total of 15,171 pages. I think GR should allow us to put yearly goals in number of pages rather than number of books. Eight of the books I read this year were under 100 pages long, so obviously my goal got filled super quickly, but it took me 48 books to read as many pages as I had last year with 33 books!
My shortest was Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists with 71 pages.
My longest was The Winds of War with 896 pages.
My average length was 310 pages.
The most popular was the illustrated Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
The least popular was Murder.com, read by a whopping 7 people. It's been read by less people than some ARCs I have that haven't been published yet. What does that tell ya?
My average rating was 3.7. That surprised me, I feel like I didn't read very many good books this year, I thought my average would be lower.
The highest rated was Spaceman: An Astronaut's Unlikely Journey to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe at 4.60. Well deserved, it was awesome.

Shortest: Kindle Paperwhite Manual - 64 pages (just got my new kindle yesterday and read the manual last night)
Bummed! I upgraded from the old keyboard model and they can't transfer your collections, so I have to go on Amazon and set up new collections. I have over 400 books on my old kindle. Can't believe their techs couldn't foresee their oldest customers with large libraries wanting to transfer their books as collections!

Most Popular: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (not surprising)
Least Popular: The Mad, the Bad, and the Dangerous - Sara Orwig (also not surprising; this was an old Harlequin series romance, only 6 people read it)
Highest rated: Protective Duty - Jessica R. Patch at 4.45 (2016 pub date so only 53 ratings - seems everyone loved it; I gave it 3 stars; it was fast and suspenseful but I thought the story was a little overdone)

I'm a new member of this group, and I think this is a fun way to introduce myself (apart from doing so in the dedicated thread).I've read 103 books so far (my goal is 105, so I can definitely do it), 31,169 pages, although my personal records say 31,949 - I sometimes just add the most popular edition of my books without bothering to see if it's the one I actually read, but I record the actual number of pages written on my copy of the book, so here's the discrepancy.
My average rating is 3.4 so far, pretty average in fact - not a great reading year, nor a bad one.
Highest rated book is The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma, with an amazing 4.63 average. I gave it 5 stars. I definitely recommend it to anyone interested in psychology and, more specifically, in trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It's a great book indeed.
Average length was 315 pages, with the longest book being A Storm of Swords, 1,216 pages, and the shortest being A Patient's Guide to Psychotherapy: And an Overview for Students and Beginning Therapists, with 94 pages.
The most popular book was A Game of Thrones, with an amazing 1,904,682 ratings, the least popular Dove comincia l'Abruzzo, read only by me - it's an Italian book with no English translation, a travel book written by two people who traveled through my region, Abruzzo. Not bad, but not very good, either.

Welcome, Marina!!! I think you'll really find a home here with your amazing reading statistics! I feel lucky to make 50 books, but we have quite a few truly voracious readers here.
How did you like Game of Thrones? I haven't read it yet, but I keep thinking about it even though fantasy isn't my normal thing.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Anita :)I used to read no more than 50 books a year until a few years ago, but that changed when I started working as a freelancer... you see, some months are really hectic, but there are also times when I don't have so much work, and that's when I can read more.
I liked Game of Thrones, as well as the rest of the series (I've only read 3 so far, and the first one is still my favorite). Fantasy is not my thing, either, but this series is very well written and engaging. The only thing is, I can't read all the books in a row, as I tend to get bored, that's why I haven't even got to the fourth one yet... Although I might be starting it before the end of the year if I feel up to it...
Welcome Marina! Fascinating that the Body Keeps the Score was your most popular read. And the other shorter overview one, is actually one I'd never heard of. There are actually four psychologists that I know of in PBT, for all I know there are more. It will be interesting if psychology pops up as one of the tags to see what people are reading and what they think of it. You're going to be a fun addition to the group and I look forward to sharing books of all kinds with you.
Welcome, Marina! So you live in Italy? I think (hope anyway!) you'll find this is a fun group, and the tags don't restrict reading the way choosing a single book for everyone to read does. I love fantasy, and while I enjoyed Martin, there are better fantasy epics out there. Check out our top 100 books PBT members think you must read, we just revised it from 2014. And most of us have already come up with our top 10 reads of the year. Looking forward to seeing your list!

In my personal tally, I also include one of the editions with page numbers in the middle for a book I listened to on audio. I have no idea what GR does with those for a "page count".

Regarding getting a new kindle, I also found it annoying, but it seems to have saved my original collections when I look on the cloud view. Not very useful, but I thought I'd share.....I didn't do any research to see if there was a way to copy them down to the new device.

If you want it on your device just click on the cover and it will download to your device. I own over 400 books, having them in the cloud is much easier than on the device. You can also go to your Amazon account and go to manage devices and content to manage your books.

annapi, I'll defintely check out the 100 list, thanks for the heads-up! Now I'm curious to know which fantasy epics you liked best than A Song of Ice and Fire... As I said, I'm not into fantasy at all, but there are a few series I enjoyed, like Martin's, and Lord of the Rings, just to name two of the best (imho).

But I love Patrick Rothfuss (Name of the Wind), Sharon Shinn, Juliet Marillier, Michelle Sagara. Though some may not necessarily be considered "epic" fantasy, these are a few of my favorites. New authors that have impressed me are N.K. Jemisin and Sabaa Tahir. Old favorites are also Mercedes Lackey, Elizabeth Moon and Anne McCaffrey, whose works are so diverse they write in multiple genres and have so many books that they can be hit or miss. Guy Gavriel Kay is not traditional fantasy, his works are almost historical fiction except the countries he creates don't exist even though they could be a parallel universe. And that's not even getting into urban fantasy, where Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher and Carrie Vaughn are high on my list. And these are only off the top of my head... can you tell fantasy & sci-fi (and mystery) are my favorite genres?

Out of the authors you mention, I only know Patrick Rothfuss - I read The Name of the Wind earlier this year and liked it a lot, but haven't continued with the series so far, although I intend to.I really need to check out the other authors you mention. I'm not a fantasy or sci-fi fan, but I love to step outside of my comfort zone from time to time.

"Yes, we had to do monthly payments as we could never afford such a big outlay all at once (there are 4 of us in the family). I'm down to the last payment in January, and then they will mail us the Hamilton tix. LOL they mailed us the rest of the tickets immediately, but held back only the Hamilton ones. Apparently we're not the only ones who are first-time season ticket buyers, just because of Hamilton!
Please let me know what Amelie is like, I was intrigued and wanted to see it but we have splurged enough on theater!
And btw, where do you live? I didn't realize you were in the Los Angeles area!

The issue is that if you organize your books into collections, that seems be local to your kindle. When you get a new kindle and down load your books, it doesn't keep the collections, but for some reason, you can look at them "in the cloud". So if you want to re-create on your new device, you have a reference in the cloud.
I am updating this now that the year is over:The only changes are that it went up to 127 books and that the page number went up to 42,522. I still think it's amazing that my least popular book was 1 GR user (me), but am not going to try to do that every year.

I actually switched dentists and went to a new 'state of the art' facility - and it was. Plus everyone was so nice, welcoming and helpful. The place was beautiful, the doctor was amazing, the tech was very calming - I have severe anxiety when I go to the dentist. I was there for 4 hours and they couldn't have been more accommodating . I love this place. I have to go back on Monday and I'm almost looking forward to it- I love my new dentist!
