Terry Southard (mama_t) These are all books off my own shelves that I've had for a long time but never read. I have decided that 2017 is a year that I am reading as many off my own shelves as I can.

I don't know why I feel so strongly about this, but it is, for some reason, *time* to read what I own.

Terris | 4387 comments Terry, I feel the same way. I'm ready to move some of the books I've collected off my shelf! So I also have a personal "bookshelf challenge" for myself next year. Hope I can stick to it!
Good luck to you :)

May we both be successful! I started to set it up as a personal challenge, but since I'm kind of new at this challenge thing I thought I'd do it within one that is already set up.

Between this, the BOTM selections, and my in real life book club, I have my work cut out for me!

I Know! I belong to two library book clubs, and have started three challenges here on GR! I'm hoping/planning that some of them will overlap. And I'm so bad at reading books that aren't on my list!! But it's so much fun to make lists for the challenges of all the books I want to read. I know I won't get to all of them, but I'm sure going to enjoy trying!! Let's Read! ;)

There's several on here that I hadn't heard of before, and only one that I've read.

I've been trying to thin out my TBR pile for YEARS but am making very little progress. Good luck on your goals.

Susie | 768 comments I came across Delta Wedding a few weeks ago while prepping my lists for my challenges...was it on your tbr?

Thank you! My virtual TBR pile will probably never decrease. I'm just hoping to winnow down the in real life TBR shelves!

One of my dear friends is a huge Eudora Welty fan. Because of her, we read The Optimist's Daughter in our book club. I enjoyed it, so when I came across Delta Wedding at 1/2 Price Books in the clearance section, it came home with me. Of course, for years it has been sitting there on the shelf, never read. But I'm determined I'll read it this year!

Lindy-Lane (moonbacklit) | 87 comments i was recently challenged to count how many books i have in my own private collection. my husband and i would like to move out of our house into a senior apartment complex with less square footage.
so i counted my books during some vacation days, and even i was amazed when the inventory come to 3,491. well now, i supposed i should get busier with reading my own books and not just reading library books. but i have also let the hub know that all the walls in the apartment just might be decorated with bookcases. :)

Terry Southard (mama_t) That is a LOT of books. I used to have more than I do now, but I got serious about culling out the ones that I was either never going to reread or that I felt that I no longer have any interest in reading for the first time. I didn't want to hang on to books just because I had read them once. I probably have a small collection of about 300 or so adult books and two bookshelves full of kid books for my grands now. I gave away a lot more than that when I was sorting through books.

I just got to the point that I didn't want to leave a giant pile behind me for my only son to have to deal with when I am gone. Sounds morbid, I guess, but it's been freeing in its own way.
