Finished The Handmaid's Tale last night. I actually meant to give it four stars instead of five but it was about a 4.5 so I'll leave it.Moving on to Written in Red next, I think.
I look forward to seeing what you think of that, apparently at some point I marked it as want to read :D
DoodlePanda wrote: "I look forward to seeing what you think of that, apparently at some point I marked it as want to read :D"It was on sale for $2.99 at Amazon, and my library has the rest of the series so I figured it was worth a risk. Actually, my library has that one, too, but only in epub while the others are available for Kindle. No idea why it's that way, but it was cheap enough to take a chance on starting a new series.
MrsJoseph wrote: "I LOVED written in Red."Oooh, good to know! Now I feel less conflicted about reading it next even though I just got it yesterday. LOL You know how it can be, when you already have all those other books sitting there waiting... Being both a book boarder and an impulse buyer makes things hard, dammit. :D

Yes, lol.
Written in Red is rather fluffy. The MC is sickeningly sweet and so many things could be better. It's a classic "Everyone loves her because..."
But I DIDN'T CARE. The author wrote it in a way that grabbed my attention and didn't let it go. It was everything good and made my whole body smile.
Yeah, I read somewhere that the writing is compelling, and that the world building is excellent, which is a major must-have for me for this genre, so that's what sucked me in.
Christa wrote: "Yeah, I read somewhere that the writing is compelling, and that the world building is excellent, which is a major must-have for me for this genre, so that's what sucked me in."YES to both.
And you can't help but to like the snowflake. But she doesn't have any irritating habits.
Christa wrote: "Started reading it last night. LOVE it so far! :)"yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!
*snoopy dance*
AND NOW I WANT TO READ IT EVEN MORE!!! Lol!
Also... I don't have a W in my A-Z challenge yet... hmmmmm
I saw this conversation while I was at work and bought it. Now I have to charge my Kindle so that I can actually read it.
LOL If we're not careful we'll end up in an accidental book club. :PIt's actually pretty rare that I stumble onto a UF series that I think I'll really like, that I haven't already heard about and that already has several books available.
Let me know if any of yall continue on. I need to push the rest of the series up Mt. TBR. I've only read 1 & 2 but I own all of them.
I probably will, though I don't know how many books I'll put in between the first one and the second. I've got holds at the library that may come in and such. But I'm pretty sure I'll continue the series.I was initially a bit "hmmm" going in because of what you said about "everyone loves her because..." but now that I'm into it,
(view spoiler)

Yay!! I'm almost at the halfway mark and I ditto what Christa says about the Meg! She is neither insufferably Mary-Sue nor TSTL. She knows she's inexperienced and tries to either make the best out of a situation, or allow her fight/flight instinct to do its job.
I have no idea where the story is heading but it's been an interesting ride.
Yay to us all! :D I'm really looking forward to all of us being able to discuss it. Oh, I should start a thread for it! Okay, so I did. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Okay, so you guys remember the Monkey, Not Owl story from my last trip to Florida, right?Well.
After Fruitland Park being divided into two groups (those who saw the monkeys and those who thought that those people were crazy), the story finally broke. Yesterday, my cousin Penny and one of her neighbors were interviewed about the monkeys. LOL
If you go to the link and watch the video, you'll see a clip where Penny is saying, "no, it's an owl or whatever, and she said, No, it's a monkey!" which is referring to the conversation she and I had in December when I saw the monkey.

Too funny that this started while I was visiting FL, and continues while I'm here again. :D
LOL "we have posted pictures so you'll know what to look for"It's a monkey, how tricky can it be to see :P
Funny that the story kicks off as you arrive again xD

Well, considering that on that first day, Penny thought it was an owl... It's apparently trickier for some than it would be for you and I. LOL

Yes. And the media is mostly to blame. I mean, these people showed up hoping for a Killer Monkey story, it was painfully obvious. That's why I thought it was too funny when they saw an actual monkey and he was basically just sitting on the road, chillin', almost like he WANTED them to see him there being all non-violent and stuff. The media has an agenda, but SO DO THE MONKEYS. :D
I was gonna post about the book I just read, but I actually wrote a review! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Now I need to update my book cover post because I'm behind in updating.
MrsJoseph wrote: "Reviewsssssssss. :-DGreat review! I'm going to have to read this."
I hope you enjoy it! :) I'll probably dive into the next book in the series when I finish book 3 of The Others. These Lines of Thunder books seem to be pretty much standalone, just taking place in the same world / around the war.
I was gonna read the next Lines of Thunder book next but as some of you already noticed, I started The Ceiling Man instead. I don't recommend it for reading before bed (creepy!), but other than that, it seems good so far.
Christa wrote: "I was gonna read the next Lines of Thunder book next but as some of you already noticed, I started The Ceiling Man instead. I don't recommend it for reading before bed (creepy!), bu..."Even the cover looks creepy.
So. I put The Ceiling Man on hold because it started to bore me, then I put Marked in Flesh (The Others #4) on hold because it just wasn't grabbing me, and I settled into The Long Way Down, the first Daniel Faust book. Loved it!
I'm feeling you! Ihad some brain farts sooo...
Started a few books but couldn't get into them.
Then I read the Murderbot Diaries and LOVED it. Wanted more space opera action...
started dark run but nothing
Now on to the Ghost Brigades. So far, so good!
I've also been craving sci fi lately but it has to be the *right* sci fi and I just haven't found it. Fortunately, anything noir-ish seems to work for me these days, regardless of what else I may be in the mood for. Reading these old Philip Marlowe detective stories... I keep making jokes about "vintage dick". I'm such a child sometimes. I'm in good company, though. My roommate followed up with "that's what she said".

And I have something even corny-er. You probably shouldn't share with roomy:
When people use words that end in the "-er" sound - like liquor - I'd say "Lick her?! I don't even know her!"
Updated to add: I think it works best when with words that aren't remotely dirty. Like "Farmer," lol.OMG. I'm dying over here.
I have the suspicion that I'd love to get drunk with yall...but that we'd get into a shitton of trouble, too.
OMG you are soooo right about that! LOL We'd need a designated judge - someone who follows us around and determines whether we need to drink less to ensure we remember everything, or drink more to ensure we don't. :D

The Handmaid's Tale has been on my to read list forever. I might get to it this year. I really enjoyed the Maddaddam trilogy from Atwood."
*shudder*
I've listened to bits and pieces of the story when my cousin was reading it. Still traumatized.
I've also seen the movie - much easier to deal with than the book (for me).
