Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hi Tessa. I don't know what you're asking. You do not need to put in an email to make a post.

Tessa Rose | 29 comments Christina wrote: "Hi Tessa. I don't know what you're asking. You do not need to put in an email to make a post."

It was for a new topic. When I tried to post, a message came up saying I had to enter an email to start a new topic, and the post disappeared.

I guess I'll try again

message 53: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Weird! As far as I know, as long as you're a group member, you should be able to just post. Click on the folder you want and select "new topic" from the options at the top of the list. Maybe you weren't actually logged in when you tried?

It just happened again ... "sorry, you have to verify your email before posting a new topic." But I posted comments without any problem. I'll try logging out and starting over. Thanks.

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Huh! Sorry about the confusion. I've never seen that before. Though with all the spam lately, they may have just implemented that as a new way of verifying new posters are human. If it gives you trouble again, I recommend sending Goodreads customer support an email asking for help.

I had no idea my email was not verified ... I did take a vacation from here for a long time. Maybe it got un-verified? But I went to edit profile, settings, and a message shows up there, and a verification can be sent from there. Just telling you this in case it comes up again. Thanks again :)

Shervin Jamali | 1 comments Hi, MODs.

Myself and twelve other gifted Indie authors have collaborated on an anthology, "The Thirteen Lives of Frank Peppercorn." All proceeds are going to the Alzheimer's Association. It's available on May 19th, but is available for pre-order. A great collection of fantastic stories from some of the most talented individuals I've had the great honor of getting to know, read and work with. And for a great cause. Can I drop some links somewhere? I'll indulge in blatant self promotion at a later time. :)

Cheers!

message 58: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) You may start a showcase thread as per the rules. There you can discuss your work and promote anything you'd like. We discourage simply dropping links anywhere as that tends to gum up the works. We want this group to remain user friendly to authors and readers.

Aidan Nally | 5 comments Many questions here too. How do I tell all my friends of my kindle free weekend?

To tell your friends, your best bet is a general update, which you can make on the Goodreads home page. To announce a free promotion within the group, read the rules, then read the pinned post for the correct folder, and finally, read the instructions on the appropriate thread and follow them.

that is cool. when you say "correct folder" how would I find this, mine is Memoir

message 62: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) That would go under nonfiction.

message 63: by Susanne (new)

Susanne Leist (susanneleist) | 1 comments I added my showcase yesterday. I followed the rules. I don't see my showcase anywhere.
Thank you,

message 64: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hi Susanne. I replied to your PM.

Zhana Zhana (zhana21) | 4 comments Hello. Please advise, where can I post a new author thread? Having trouble finding the link.

Also, I a holding an ebook giveaway for the next two days. Where can I post details?

Thanks.
Zhana

There are instructions for posting a showcase thread in the New Member Check-in folder. Announcement of promotions goes on the appropriate thread in the promotion folder.

message 67: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Ivy,
Please post in the services folder. Your post was deleted because it contained a link in addition to your question. Links and advertising are only allowed where specified in the rules and pinned posts.

message 68: by Ivy (new)

Ivy Logan (goodreadscomivyloganauthor) | 1 comments I apologize. the intention was to tell you what I was about. so any thoughts on connecting with fantasy readers?
Wold much appreciate that

message 69: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Creating a showcase thread to introduce yourself would be a good start, and as I said, if you are looking for authors, we have the services folder and our reader request thread. Outside of the showcase, I cannot speak for all of Goodreads. Each group has their own rules in addition to the Goodreads guidelines.

message 70: by Marisa (new)

Marisa | 4 comments Hello Mods,

I would like to run a promotion, offering a free Kindle copy of my book in exchange for a book review. Can you please let me know the best place to post the promotion? I previously made the post in my folder in the SIA Showcase. A Moderator removed the post and said I was not allowed to request a book review there. I was not aware of that and would like to make the post where it is permitted. If you could direct me to the appropriate group/folder or recommend another place, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Marisa

Nowhere. This is not only against our group rules, but against the rules of Goodreads and Amazon and against FTC regulations.

JAKe Hatmacher (jakehatmacher) | 38 comments Christina,
I've not written in my file in SIA Showcase for a long time now, and actually I gave up trying. One of the coordinators for the site kept on rejecting my posts saying I was entering incorrectly, but he would never explain what I was doing wrong and I couldn't find anything I was doing wrong.
Now, I don't even know where or how to find my thread to showcase myself. Could you please help me in some way?

Dwayne Fry | 564 comments Mod
Christina is no longer a moderator, Jake.

I'm not sure how to explain how to start a new thread there any better than the explanation that is already given. Go to the Check-In folder and start a new thread there. Do not start your thread in one of the folders marked A-G, H-M (or whatever) or it will be deleted.

Dwayne, I searched for the "Check-in" folder and couldn't find it. Please tell me how to access it and what appropriate language I need to use once I get there.

Jake go to this link for the rules: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Then go to https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... to start your thread

You must start with your author name and then the rest is up to you. Once you have posted there, a moderator will greet you and move you to your proper folder. Do not start another thread if you already have one.

message 76: by G.G., Genre Buster Extraordinaire (new)

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 571 comments Mod
Ops... I'm not sure I answered your question...here's more explanations. If you have created a thread already go to the alphabetical folders and look into the range of letters that your last name would be in. Unless you used another name, I checked for Jake Hatmacher and didn't find a thread so you should be good to start it.

Ross Eberle | 10 comments Hi, guys!

I posted properly in the New Members CheckIn & Rules part of the
SIA Showcase for Readers and Writers group. How long should I wait before my name and books will be featured in the appropriate section of the Member Showcase threads?

Please let me know...Thanks in advance!

Took care of it just now. It sometimes takes a couple of days.

Very nice, thanks! What helpful service you guys have here. I am hopeful this will garner at least a little more attention towards my series...But I'm not holding my breath to much. ;-)

To be honest, I don't feel it helps that much. I've been there since we opened it and, yes, it helps a little, but most of the people who read your posts are other authors who are mainly there to hawk their own books.

Hmm...I see. Well, if this is the case, then, what's the next-best way for me to gain publicity for my books? How do I become the next Rick Riordan or even Suzanne Collins?

message 82: by Dwayne, That's Dr. Cannibal To You (new)

Dwayne Fry | 564 comments Mod
Concentrate on being the only Ross Eberle, first of all. Don't try to be the next.... whoever.

And if I had the answers to how to be rich and famous from writing, I wouldn't give it away free.

Ross wrote: "Hi there!... So, can a Moderator please add this to my Member Showcase...Thanks!"

We don't take care of your showcase for you. You'll have to do it on your own. I would have no way of posting from your account and I wouldn't think you'd want us speaking for you.

Hi again!

Sorry for not responding to this right away. I've been super-busy as of late. Writing (And other endeavors) have a tendency to do this. Anyway, I completely agree with you. I'd rather be the one and only Ross Eberle. After all, I am who I am. So, there's no point in me pretending to me anyone else. And I actually did update my showcase a while back...Thanks!

message 85: by Anita (new)

Anita M. Shaw (anitamshaw) | 1 comments I'm sure I'm posting on someone's thread, but I don't see a link for starting a new one. Am I missing something? All I see is post a comment.

I want to ask about pen names. I have a GR account for my romance pen name as well as for my own name as a middle grade author. Will I be in violation of rules if I have a thread for each? The whole idea of a pen name is to keep separate the two genre. But I don't want to do something I'm not allowed to.

That's never come up. Frank answer: The people who set up this group here on Goodreads seem to be long gone and I am the only one left moderating it. I don't have a problem with you setting up two threads for each of your names.
