Max (kydas) | 9 comments ISBN-13 of the book in the request is 9783453317536.

The page number in the data is 400, but I bought the book recently and have it before me right now and the page number is actually 572. That's over 170 pages missed.

Thanks a lot :)

lethe | 16368 comments When did you buy it? The pub date listed on GR is 12 December (today) :)

Sandra | 31525 comments I often get books before the publish date, esp from Book Depository if I've preordered, and that incl posting to Australia :)

Max (kydas) | 9 comments I bought it at the bookstore where I used to work and most publishers usually deliver their books the week before the official publish date ;) (so that it is already in the store on the first day).

lethe | 16368 comments Yes, last year my local bookstore (in the Netherlands) had Slade House available a week before the official pub date of 27 October, so I changed the pub date to the 20th. Seemed a bit silly to leave it at 27.

Why, if that was the official publication date?

message 9: by lethe (new)

lethe | 16368 comments Because I bought the physical book in a bookstore before that date, and it had been available there since the 20th. I thought, why maintain that it was published on the 27th when that is obviously not true?

Postdating books might have implications for cover changes, to name one thing.

— Now I'm reminded of a conversation we had earlier about academic non-fiction books that are postdated to appear more current.

So, should I change it back? (grumble, grumble)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments I would say yes. If a book is bought before the release date it's just that you bought it against the contract the seller had with the supplier, and if you leave it as the wrong date, it can confuse everyone else who bought it at the correct time.

lethe | 16368 comments Since the book itself only states the year, not the exact date, I would imagine the official date to be more confusing.

"Hmm, GR says the pub date is 27 October, but I bought it today! On the 22nd. And it's the first edition too, so the pub date on GR must be wrong."

Whereas someone who bought it on the 27th or later probably wouldn't give it a thought if the pub date was shown as the 20th.
