Gen LaGreca | 56 comments I'm getting some unfortunate reviews by the historical novel readers on my novel, A DREAM OF DARING. It's particularly thought-provoking and far-reaching in its theme, and I guess the readers in this genre don't especially want what I have to offer. Can anyone who's read this book and enjoyed it please give a helpful review on Amazon? I'd so much appreciate it! It won 5 book awards and got a recommendation from Booklist. If anyone wants a free Kindle copy to review, I'm happy to shoot a gift copy out to you. Thanks!

Jack (jackjuly) | 254 comments Actually, your Amazon reviews are great. You don't want too many five stars and you need some one and two stars. I have way too many five stars and people think I bought my reviews. Smile and be grateful. The worst think an Author can to is try to manipulate his ratings. Especially when they are as good as yours.

I already reviewed, but I can up and downvote existing reviews to help the average.

Asking for reviews is not manipulation unless you're making an agreement that the reviewer will ONLY give 4 or 5 stars (and how would you enforce that anyway?) That said, Jack is right that having a couple of negative ones gives you more cred as an indie author.

So I went and looked. You definitely have a great distribution of reviews, and most of us would kill for over 100 reviews (you deserve it, though!) I downvoted the two new 1-stars. One of them was just an unhinged rant that should really be reported. And I also asked one of the 1-star reviewers why she gave 1 star while saying it was "good." My guess is her hand twitched of something.

EDITED: Reported the rant and shared in the FB group. Amazon reviews are no place for crap like this, regardless of politics.

Gen LaGreca | 56 comments Thanks!! You've both made me feel better already.

I'm trying the new Amazon "Sponsored" and "Product" ads over the next 2 months. Will let you know how they work out.

I don't consider down voting unfair one stars manipulation. Let me get on that
