Summer Reading Projects

newest »

I think for the summer I'll work on finishing the many books I've started. I have developed a very bad habit of not finishing books these past few months.

I'll probably work on whittling the books on my Kindle down (the list just keeps getting longer) and working through my classics project this summer. No rest for readers xD

Well if you did not finish them because you did not like them - why finish them :)

What is your classics reading project?

I'm reading through a whole bunch of those classics people always talk about but that I've never actually read (George Orwell, the Bronte sisters, most of Shakespeare, Jules Verne, etc). I expect it'll take a great deal longer than a summer but I plan to make progress xD
I don't think I didn't like them. It's been something like the right book at the wrong time. The older I get the more I'm understanding that all books aren't for every occasion, season or stage in life. For instance I've been reading too many heavy books when I'm honestly too busy to really sit down and get into it. Maybe for the summer months I should read something quick, light, and maybe comedic. Winter being stuck in It's a lot easier to dedicate my time for dark, heavy or scholarly books. Idk it makes since in my head lol.

Since I vacation in the fall and winter I usually decide to tackle a couple of subjects and/or read a BAB (Big A*** Book) during the summer.
So here are my plans for this summer:
Red Summer: The Summer of 1919 and the Awakening of Black America by Cameron McWhirter
I have read fiction and nonfiction books on a number of the 30+ "race riots" that occurred during the summer of 1919 but want to read a book that looks at these events as a whole before delving more into the individual events.
Wizard of the Crow by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o
I have been meaning to read this 700+ page book so set up a 8 week schedule.
And maybe I can even squeeze in A Storm of Swords: Blood and Gold :)
