John Saomes | 15 comments I have listed both my books at $0.99 for the December Christmas rush. Amazon is the only site I have my books for sale, so I was wondering why the price shows as $0.74. Are they trying to match my Amazon.com.au $0.99 in Australia? Do other authors experience these price variations?

Aislinn Hi John,

To answer your question, yes, Amazon match the currency. You can change this on the pricing page on KDP, by choosing individual prices for each region. I hope that helps!

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Hi John,
If you are looking at Amazon.com from Australia (or anywhere else that has its own Amazon dedicated store) you will see an incorrect price. If you are looking at Amazon.au and seeing 74¢, then I'm not sure what is happening because the minimum price you can have is 99¢ and the exchange rate would have it higher if they were actually price matching.

Ben Jackson | 86 comments If you put your book at 99c AUD in amazon.com.au then amazon.com will automatically make it 70c USD or whatever in amazon.com

Amie O'Brien | 280 comments I always think it's funny when I check my book status online with Amazon and find that it's on sale. It's usually my rate of $2.99, but like right now they marked it 16% off for $2.51. I'm like..."well alright." LOL

I guess they're just trying to help me along, so I don't get frustrated. But it feels like a punch in the gut! It changes my payout % from them, for sure.

John Saomes | 15 comments Thanks everyone.. my KDP is a US account and all prices are automatically based on the US price. I unticked the Australian and Canadian link and priced them to get the 99 cent deal (instead of conversion at $1.30+).
Yes, Amazon USD price dropped to $0.74 matching the Australian 99 cents. Changed it back overnight ...as $0.99 is a big enough discount!

Okay, no, your price was not dropped. Amazon will not price a book below 99¢ usd. You were seeing a wrong price as you were trying to view the .com store from Australia. This is a glitch that happens, but your price was not ever actually changed.

I had them discount my book before too. By quite a bit, actually ($3.99 to $0.99). Yep, they're just helping us out *smiles wide* but we actually still make royalties based on the original price we set *smiles wider* Just to put your mind at ease ^_~

John Saomes | 15 comments Okay.. I've learnt two things
1)There can be a glitch when viewing Amazon.com from foreign country
2)When Amazon discounts your listed price you still get royalties on your set price.
Much appreciated.
(...and 3 you guys are helpful)

Amie O'Brien | 280 comments Thanks Annie! That is awesome news! I published outside of KDP, so I wasn't really sure how the 'ol price reduction worked. I figured I'd learn when Bookbaby reported my December sales. For now, I just use it as an opportunity to tell people my book is on sale.
