Anita (anitafajitapitareada) New Year, New Challenge!

I'm compiling a list of themes for The Mary Sue's Second reading challenge. If you want some input on the themes for this upcoming year's challenge reads, now is your chance.

The themes allow us to share reading with each other while finding that book that fits our personal taste and the genre of the month, as opposed to the book of the month in which we choose the same book to read together. It's fun to see what other people chose to read, and how they interpreted the theme. Let's be honest, we get some good reads off of each other and help fill up our to-read shelves even more.

As of now, it is a working list and up for tweaking, editing, evolving, and downright changing. How can we make these genre themes more interesting? You let us know! Whether you see a generic theme listed, or you want to move things around or shake things up, all suggestions are welcome (and encouraged) at this time. I'd love to get in more diversity. Do you want to see more women? More PoC? More LGBTQ? Feminism? Social Commentary? Mystery? Thriller? Steampunk??? Help me help you!

January- Goodreads Best of 2016 winner: your choice genre
February- Second Month, Second Book: Read a Sequel
March- In Memorium: Read a book by or about someone who died in 2016
April- Dusting the Shelves: So, you know that book way at the beginning of your to-read shelf? Read It and tell us how good it feels to have done so!
May- Getting to Know You (read this lyrically because I grew up with Julie Andrews): Read a memoir/biography/autobiography by or about a person who identifies as LGBTQ
June- Social Movement: Read a historical fiction/non-fiction that explores an era of social change/movement.
July- Box Office Blockbusters: Read a book that's being made into a movie this year.
August- Intersectional reading: Read a non-fiction feminist book by a person of color
September- Space Pirates?
October- Horror?
November- Globetrotter: Read a book written by a foreign author and/or takes place in a foreign land.
December- End of the Year or End of the World?!: Dystopian/Utopian/Retopian(jkImadethatup) alt.civilization, read it and tell us about it!

Happy to add an In Memorium read, thank you for suggesting! Looking at the list I think it would fit most easily in March, but could rearrange if you'd like it sooner as per the Carrie Fisher conversation?
