I'd have to say that my favorite classic book is Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery. After reading the first book in the series, I made my mom go out and buy me the rest of the series. I enjoyed the books very much! I especially liked the relationship that the author portrayed between Anne and Matthew, and of course Anne's bitterness with Gilbert!
All the Little House on the Prairie books. I was given the Anne of Green Gables books around the same time, and I liked them too, but something about Laura's life really captured my attention. I was fascinated by the idea of building a house wherever they went (particularly the one in the riverbank)!

It wasn't until my mother became determined to find the reader in me that I found a passion for reading. We sat down in Chapters for about 2 hours trying to find something I would actually enjoy. We eventually picked out two books the first was The Seer and The Sword. And with that I fell in love with reading.
I now love the idea of traveling to new worlds and going on adventures all in the comfort of my own home. To be honest I don't fully remember the story much, it was about a young princess who's father returns from war with a special crystal and the defeated kingdom's prince to be her slave. She releases him and the two become friends. I've attached a link to the book if you want to read more about it. I remember loving the adventure, it was the first book I couldn't put down!
The second book we picked out was the first series I ever finished! It was The Mediator by Meg Cabot, I loved the humour and the mystery and of course I loved the paranormal touch!
After reading these books, I found out that it wasn't a task that had to be completed, it was a joy to take part in. Although I'll admit not all books are as amazing, I now know there is some really great material out there, I just can't always trust the curriculum will chose wisely.
So I'm curious if there are others out there that remember that first book that made you actually enjoy reading? What was so great about it and how did it change how you look at reading? Please share!
