Just completed my 4th #2 (pink) - Lucky Broken Girl by Ruth Behar. I really appreciated the story related. I loved all of the different characters from different countries and cultures. I almost wish the author had written the book for adult audiences, rather than middle school. The concepts were too big to be contained by the simplistic prose. Worth reading. 3.5 stars

Just completed my 4th #11 (black) - Wilde Lake by Laura Lippman. Legally accurate and a surprisingly good explanation of the political and cut-throat nature of the State Attorney's office. Very slow buildup and the change from third to first person voices at odd intervals was weird, but overall, a good read. Worth reading! 4 stars

Just completed my 4th #14 (color in title) - The Yellow Envelope: One Gift, Three Rules, and a Life-Changing Journey Around the World by Kim Dinan. I'm conflicted about this book. The author actually writes well, if a touch repetitively. However, the book was a white person's journey through the world and rather selfish. What saved the book for me was the author's willingness to examine herself and admit her flaws. It also helps that she focused on the underlying problems in her marriage, rather than touting her giving money to the masses. I'm glad I read about her journey, but I'm not sure how many of her other works I could get through. 3.5 stars

Just completed my 4th #4 (orange) - The Crossover by Kwame Alexander. This was a powerful, interesting read! I loved the story in verse. It could easily have come across as gimmicky, but the underlying story was strong enough to carry it through. Excellent book! Definitely worth reading! 4.5 stars

Just completed my 4th #13 (more than five colors on cover) - The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer. I'm conflicted about this book. At the beginning, the start was slow and unconnected. I did not particularly care about the characters. As the book went on, I came to care about some of the characters, but their narratives did not evolve in the ways I predicated. Part of that is good, and part of that might be a lack of wanting to be predictable on the part of the author. Predictable is not always bad. Worth reading and a read I will be thinking about for days. 4 stars

Just completed my 4th #9 (purple) - Ghost Gifts by Laura Spinelli. Decent mystery with added fantasy elements. I liked the characters. The author could be a touch vague at times, but overall entertaining read. Worth reading. 3.5 stars

Just completed my 4th #6 (green) - The Memory of Lost Senses by Judith Kinghorn. This was a disappointing read. Bad writing and muddled confused characters (some intentional confusion and some due to the writing) made for a very frustrating read. The ending wasn’t horrible which saved the book from a one star rating. Not worth reading! 2 stars
