Ryan Clark (mome-raths-outgrabe) | 2 comments Hey Rainbow,

I honestly have no idea what to ask you - I feel like somehow I know you already because you've been so generous with your twitter replies and sending signed bookplates to my bookstore for me and all of that. And I'm sure you know how much I adore all of your books, including Landline (God, the feels). I do want you to know that I still manage to sell a copy of E&P almost every time I sell a copy of TFiOS. They just go so well together, and the parents are just thrilled that their kid wants to read anything at all, and they blow through books so quickly that they are ecstatic to build up their offspring's personal library.

Anyway, I hope things are going well for you. Is it weird that you're kinda famous now? Doing book tours and having people flip out over your achingly wonderful books? I feel like that would be weird. And awesome. Thank you for still being down-to-Earth at least enough to respond to tweets and Tumblr Asks. It means a lot to us fans, which I'm sure you know, considering you're in fandoms yourself. (I'm looking at you, Sherlock).

I think you're super inspirational, and I'm so glad that you've written what you've written, and I hope you always continue writing. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.

Thank you for being awesome.

DFTBA, Ryan. (@Ryinwonderland)

Lolosnewreviews | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!
I haven't read many of the other questions (some of them really need spoiler alert's) so I'm sorry if this one was already posted: self-published books can hit the shelves in a matter of months after completion, so why does it take traditional publishers so long?

PS Loved you on The Social!

nona | 1 comments Hola Rainbow!
How do you usually start writing a book? It's sooooo difficult to me to start writing something and i usually get very stressed out about where i should start my story, any tips?

xoxo from Spain

message 257: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Rainbow! For one, thank you for writing real characters with flaws, quirks, and actual personalities. I've read fangirl and E&P and can't wait to get my hands on your new book. Do you ever consider writing follow ups (or sequels) or do you want to keep all your novels as stand alone? (they are fabulous as is im just selfish and want to dive back into their world's).

message 258: by Abby (new)

Abby (abbbbbby) | 1 comments Hi rainbow !
Do you ever have inspirations for you characters? Do you base them off people you know or add yourself to them? If so which ones are your most inspired character off someone else? Xx Abby.

message 259: by Mary Lois (new)

Mary Lois (luvidlooooo) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow Rowell! I've read Fangirl, Eleanor & Park , and Attachments and all of them are such an amazing novels. I'm from the Philippines and I would like to say hi from all your fans here :)

My question is: What is your greatest inspiration in writing all your novels?

message 260: by Laura (new)

Laura | 1 comments Several of my fellow teachers at school have read "Eleanor and Park" and loved it. (They're now catching up with your other books, which I've already read and enjoyed.)

While I know you said you'd never say what the three words were, can you explain your decision NOT to say what they were?

Thanks!

message 261: by Mariana (new)

Mariana (marianac2714) Hi Rainbow!
I love your YA books, especially Fangirl!
I would like to ask what inspires you to write?
Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
Also, will there be anymore of Simon Snow? :)

-Thanks! P.S I love your name!

message 262: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG IM GONNA DIE IF I DONT ASK U THIS QUESTION (and i know this question sounds like hazel from The fault in our stars)
What happens afterward? Does Richie go to jail? What happens to Sabrina, Mouse, Ben, Masie, and Little Richie? Do Eleanor and Park meet again? Does Uncle Geoff take good care of Eleanor? Does Mr Sheridan become accepting of Park? Does Park keep on wearing eyeliner?

PLEASE ANSWER!!!!!!

Heather MacLaughlin | 1 comments I really just have one question - at the end of Eleanor and Park, the 3 little words, are we the reader just supposed to assume that those 3 words are "I love you" because I keep thinking that it could have meant a lot of different things!

Thanks - Heather

message 264: by PandiBee (new)

PandiBee (rozzita) Hi I am a peruvian reader of your books like Fangirl and Eleanor & Park . I totally think they are great and unique books. Now I cant wait to have "Landline" in my hands. Rainbow here is my question: how was the transition process between writing "eleanor & park" and

message 266: by Megan (new)

Megan (nutmeg1021) I absolutely loved Fangirl! Do you have any plans to write any sequels to any of your works or do you prefer standalone stories?

message 267: by Antonella (new)

Antonella Cuervo (antonellacuervo) | 1 comments Hi!
I love Eleanor and Park and I'm dying to read Fangirl. What are your inspirations to write? Music? People? Nature? Cats?
And also, what is your all time favorite book? :)

message 268: by Apryl (new)

Apryl (aprylflynn) | 1 comments Hi, Rainbow. I love your books, but I wanted more at the end, especially Fangirl. Will you write a sequel for any of your books?

message 269: by Mariali25 (new)

Mariali25 | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! I really love your books!! And I'm a big fan of yours!
I wanted to ask you this; I have heard that Eleanor & Park is becoming a movie, and I heard that you would be writing the screen play?, is it true?, and you have any idea of who could be in the the cast?

message 270: by Bri (new)

Bri (brilliantli) Hi Rainbow! <3
I was wondering, what was your inspiration to write all of these stories? Did you base them in real life? Or Did you use a fantasy of your own?
Thank You! <3 C:

message 271: by Shobha (new)

Shobha Rajpal | 1 comments Hello Rainbow, I happened upon your book 'Attachments' purely accidentally and I loved it. There were nuances in details, a subtlety in the buildup of relationship between the two main characters, the unusual narration that described the characters fully without going into cheesy details :) that I wonder if the inspiration was personal or just a keen observation(s)?

message 272: by Camila (new)

Camila Adrianzén | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! I've read Eleanor & Park and I want to read Fangirl but the book isn't sold in my country(Peru). Now, I have some questions: 1. What happened to Eleanor's mother and brothers? Do they look for her? 2. Does Sabrina break up with Richie? 3. What is your new book about? 4. What's your favourite book and author?

I really love Eleanor & Park, I made a review about it http://imadreamerbutnotheonlyone.blog...

Thank you so much for this Rainbow. Thank you so so much.

message 273: by Lindsy (new)

Lindsy C. Dearest Rainbow Rowell,

I am a huge fan of Eleanor & Park and, as a teacher, I was able to recommend it to some of my students. One student was so inspired after reading the novel she painted a portrait of Eleanor as an art project! I (and another of my students) also really loved Fangirl, especially the "book within a book" concept. Would you ever consider writing any Simon Snow novels...or perhaps even a collection of Simon Snow stories?!

Thank you for creating novels that are independent of each other, and span a variety of genres. Keep 'em coming, and I'll keep reading :-)

message 274: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Marie (foxytales_) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!
I absolutely love your books - I had to throw that in there haha.

My question for you is: does your own marriage ever influence or make appearances in any of your stories?

message 275: by Mirasol (last edited Jun 05, 2014 07:47PM) (new)

Mirasol Quisto (mirasolquisto) | 1 comments Hi, I love your E&P and I can't wait to read your other books.

Out of the books you've written, which one is your favorite and why? Did some of your personal experiences as a teen transpired in any of your story?

message 276: by Dee (last edited Jun 01, 2014 11:30PM) (new)

Dee (dbartsy) Hi, Rainbow!

Oooh, my first question I ask to an author on goodreads, and only because your books rock! Eleanor and Park is so great, seriously. Love the songs you incorporated into the book, helps having being a child in the 80's with two teen sisters. ☺

Fangirl was just as good, and now you are one of my fave authors. Waiting to read Attachment, and can't wait to read Landline. With Fangirl, you touched a nerve cause I'm a twin and some twins do grow apart but still love each other. Thanks for their story.

My question is: will you have a say as to who is cast as Eleanor and Park for the movie?

It would be a travesty if their images are tarnished because of Hollywood standards. Hopefully you have a say. I am so glad you are writing the script.

Thanks and keep writing awesome books!

p.s. a graphic novel sounds really cool!

message 277: by Rodrox (new)

Rodrox | 1 comments Hello:)I'm a huge fan of your writing. What are your favorite books?

message 278: by Jen (new)

Jen (jennytree33) Hi Rainbow,

First off I just love love love your books (standard)

I just want to know where you get the inspiration from to write? What's your writing routine if you have one and what pulls you through when you have those 'can't be bothered to write' moments?

Oh and is there going to be a sequel for Fangirl? And a film version of E and P? Or have I just totally made that up or heard gossip somewhere...

Thanks a bunch,

Jen

message 279: by Miranda (new)

Miranda Starmz (starmz123) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!

I'm so glad you're taking the time to do this; I love it when authors do so - it makes us fans feel a little more connected and whatnot.

But I digress! Here's my question: Do you have plans for another YA novel any time soon? If so, what tentative plot may you be going for?

Additionally, I enjoyed Attachments a lot (I liked all of your novels, but probably Attachments the most, followed by Fangirl!), and I know it's not exactly classified as YA, so I was wondering if Landlines will be in that vein as well?

Thanks so much!

message 280: by PrairieReader (new)

PrairieReader (prairiereader72) Rainbow,

Your first book I read was Attachments (loved). The next was Eleanor and Park (loved). I have Fangirl on my nightstand, but I'm pretty sure I know how my relationship with that book is going to end (it includes love). Thank you for writing books that have earned a permanent spot on my bookshelf.

I know you have dealt with issues of censorship in the past, particularly concerning Eleanor and Park, which stunned a colleague and me (we both work in a public library and, as mentioned, loved E&P). My questions to you are how do you respond to such criticism professionally and personally? How do you pick yourself up and brush yourself off and continue on writing books that resonate with people? Do you find you write differently or more cautiously now than before?

Thanks for your time and the opportunity to lose myself for a few hours in your books. Best wishes for continued success.

message 281: by Qooze (new)

Qooze | 1 comments Hi Rainbow, I loved Fangirl. I really enjoyed the glimpses of Simon Snow. Would you evr write a story set in Simon's world? Or wrote in the fantasy or speculative genre?

message 282: by Shaylen (new)

Shaylen | 1 comments Hi!

I connected immediately with your book Fangirl and found myself laughing out loud. The part where Cath is too shy to go downstairs and find the college dining hall so she resorts to eating granola bars in her room sounds JUST like me! I also loved that you chose Nebraska as the setting and even mentioned my hometown (Scottsbluff)! Go Huskers!

My question is: How do you deal with writer's block and generate ideas for your stories? Also, any advice for a new journalist, I write for my school newspaper. Thanks so much! :)

message 283: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (ahalfbloodfangirl) | 3 comments Hello Rainbow:)

Hopefully you'll see this question...

So, we obviously share similar tastes in music. I loved E&P partly because of the connection they made through music and mixed tapes. The bands you mentioned were great. How can I not love a book that mentions not only The Smiths and The Cure but SKINNY PUPPY!

What are your favorite bands? Current and not so current. Long time Depeche Mode devotee here.

Michelle

message 284: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (labridged) Rainbow, I only discovered you recently, but immediately went on an Rowell binge and got caught up on all of your works. Each is stunning. Thank you.

I admire most your ability to create such real characters. Has observing the tiny details of people come naturally to you, or is it something you developed as a writer? Is there a way to gather those details without staring creepily at strangers?

Thank you, and all the best. I can't wait to read Landline.

message 285: by Nina (new)

Nina Hi, Rainbow.
You probably don't remember meeting me, but you did. I love your books and I was just wondering where the inspiration for you characters comes from. Are they based off of past experiences, or pure imagination. Also, who designs your amazing covers?
Thanks,
Nina

message 286: by Nafisa (new)

Nafisa Choudhury (nafisalivestowrite) | 1 comments Hi :) hope you're well and still bravely going through all the questions :D

What were the greatest challenges in your path of becoming a writer? Were there difficulties in writing or motivation or inspiration? Were there fears, doubts or publishing problems? And what were your greatest rewards?

message 287: by Emma (new)

Emma Gill | 1 comments Hi! Well, unlike many other people I have only read one book (but plan on reading more!) of yours - Eleanor and Park.
Many of my questions might be repetitions of others' but I hope you don't find them too boring!

1) Where do you find all your inspiration for ideas and other such details in your books?
2) How do you decide what your target audience would be?
3) Did you know from the beginning what would happen at the end of your books, or when you wrote it did you feel it was right? If so, what told you that it was the right ending?
4) How do you go about writing your books? Does an idea pop into your head spontaneously and you start writing, or do you spend long periods of time brainstorming?
5) What hindrances have there been on your journey to become an author? Have you ever felt that you are fighting a losing battle?
6) How do you go about publishing your books?
7) How do you know that that what you have written is going to be received well and bought?

Thanks Rainbow, love your writing and keep it up!

message 288: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (vreutt) | 1 comments Rainbow,
I read that you have two sons, as I do. You seem to understand the male POV very well, and wondered what your own boys are like and if it has affected your literate self?

message 289: by Zyrah (new)

Zyrah | 1 comments I really loved Attachments. I've read Eleanor and Park and almost done with Fangirl, but Lincoln and Beth's my favorite! I loved their story. I loved how they fell in love. I loved all of it! Nyahaha ♥

Continue writing good stories :) Can't wait for the Landline! Godspeed!

message 290: by Alysyn (new)

Alysyn Reinhardt (alysyn_hardt) | 1 comments I heard Eleanor & Park might be a movie! I found this really interesting especially for you because the whole time I read Attachments I felt like it read like a movie. The characters were always doing something while they spoke, kind of like stage direction for actors. There's also tons of references to pop culture. So I'd love to hear some of your favorite films or if you ever used any for inspiration.

message 291: by Daniela (new)

Daniela Silva (danielashel) Hello Rainbow, pleased to have this kind of opportunity. I would like to ask if your other books are going to get translated and published in spanish. Greetings from Colombia.

message 292: by Fi (new)

Fi (fi_reads_books) Hi! I am a huge fan of Eleanor and Park and Fangirl. Is Landline strictly for adults or can teenagers read it too? Also, are there any other young adult novels by you in store for us in the future?

message 293: by Jen (new)

Jen Hi Rainbow! I'm a huge fan of your writing and books. I was wondering where does you're inspiration come from and how do you overcome a writer's block?

message 294: by Samar (new)

Samar | 1 comments Rainbow, I love your writing very much!
The characters you created in Fangirl are very realistic and relatable, and I was wondering, who inspired you the most during your journey as a famous author? What gave you the ideas to these beautiful novels? Can you give us as readers of well written novels an advice to improve our writing style? Did you study English literature during your university years?
Thank you very much!

message 295: by Kwan-Ann (new)

Kwan-Ann (dansesinfernale) Dear Rainbow--

I have to say, I'm absolutely in love with your name and your writing and am seriously considering naming my first child after you, and asking you to be honorary god-mother! :D

I do have a few questions to ask you, and I hope you won't mind answering at least one? Pretty please? :)

Well, for starters, have you ever written fanfiction yourself? Do you consider yourself in any fandoms? What made you want to write Fangirl in the first place? Why are you so good at portraying how people think and feel-- especially fangirls and teenagers like me, who relate so much to your characters? Do you have any advice to us aspiring authors as to how to create our own amazing characters and tales?

Alright, I shall end my barrage of questions here. I really cannot wait for Landline, and I'm sure I'll love it just as much as I love your other books! <3

message 296: by Carissa (new)

Carissa (rissyreads) Hi Rainbow!

What can you tell us about your collaboration with Faith Erin Hicks? You are one of my favorite authors and she's my favorite graphic artist so needless to say I'm super excited!!!

Thank you for your time! I can't wait to read Landlines!

message 297: by Elf_97 (new)

Elf_97 | 1 comments Hi! I've read Fangirl and Eleanor and Park (even though english is not my mother tongue), I really loved both! And I literally fall in love with Park! Hahaha! It was really refreshing! I felt so happy following Eleanor's life throughout various obstacles. I really felt like it was my first love story. You really inspired a lot of people with your amazing writing skill. I really enjoy listening music so while I read (or write fanfictions) I always listen to music,so I wanted to know if you also do so while writing. And what you do to get inspiration.

message 298: by Autumn (new)

Autumn Hey Rainbow,

As somebody who was working at a newspaper with a bunch of cute boys in 1999, I have to thank you for Attachments, which I read in two giant gulps like a deeply personal cake.

How has your newspaper experience affected your fiction writing, besides that setting?

Thanks!

Maren(dersane)abella | 6 comments HI MRS. ROWELL! CAN YOU PLEASE BEG THEM TO MAKE THE ELEANOR AND PARK TO MOVIE? :) THANK YOU!
