Hazel (hazelzee) | 1 comments You can choose to answer this or not, but.. how did you get into our heads when you made your books! I love that even though they're YA, they're the YA for Generation X (you know, Casette tapes, You've Got Mail, Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks, Y2K...)

you literally picked my brains. love it!

message 152: by Anna (new)

Anna Chichester | 1 comments I've read Fangirl and was so happy with the way you portrayed the social anxiety behind entering college as well as the struggles of adjusting from fanfiction to creative writing.
Q: How did your personal experiences impact the direction you took this novel as well as the others? Do you write these types of stories more for the nostalgia or for giving messages to a younger audience?

message 153: by [deleted user] (new)

Q:What was your inspiration for Eleanor? Also, are you excited that Eleanor and Park is going to be a movie? When will the trailer be released? Are you going to be directing it? Whose playing Eleanor and Park? :) ((btw love you girl))

message 154: by Fandom (new)

Fandom Addict | 1 comments When writing your books to you use people from your life to base your characters off of or do you just make them up in your head?

What time of the day do you prefer to write?

What books do you read that inspire different ideas for your books?

message 155: by Helen (new)

Helen Yang | 1 comments Hi Rainbow I love your book Fangirl, my friend recommended it to me because she knew I would love it. I feel like it's easy to start a story but it's not always easy to finish it. How do you keep the story going? Also, how do you wrap up a story? I always think that it's hard to end a story because it might end up being a good beginning but a terrible ending.
Thanks!

Alyanna Balbastro (alyannaaa) | 1 comments Hello Rainbow, I've read your book Eleanor & Park and Attachments and loved them, and i'll be reading more of your books soon. :)

Where do you get your inspiration in writing your books, are some of your stories and the characters in it are based on your personal experience? Love to hear from you. :)

message 157: by Megan (new)

Megan Whalen (meganslibrarynj) | 2 comments Hi Rainbow!

Like most everyone else here, I absolutely adore your books and I have developed major crushes on all of your leading men. So, I must ask this completely shallow question: Besides your own amazing characters, who is your top fictional crush?

Thanks!

message 158: by Ranzes Miyo (new)

Ranzes Miyo Tamayo (nimiyous) | 1 comments Hi, Rainbow. I loved Eleanor and Park. The feelings were so... so indescribable :"> Anyhoo, I know people in this discussion group would ask you about your books, but I want to be different. So here it goes. Everyone went through an embarrassing moment in their lives, what's yours? Mine was I tripped while walking in the mall and I screamed that everyone stared at me for like more than the minutes they're supposed to pay attention to my embarrassment.

message 159: by Wing (new)

Wing Parker | 1 comments Dear Rainbow,

There are three things I would like to say.

1. Your books are interesting and they amuse me a lot which bring me lots of joy and even more enjoy my reading time. I sincerely thank you for the pleasure that you bring me.

2. Although I just read 'Fangirl' and currently reading 'Attachment', I still look forward to your next book.

3. Here is a question I would like to ask. It is a simple question, I guess. What does 'writing' mean to you?- if you know what I mean.

In advance, thank you for your time reading my comment and answer my question. Thank you so much.

Warm Regards,
Wing

message 160: by Larissa (new)

Larissa hi Rainbow Rowell i have two questions for you
1. what character to seem to connect the best with all of your books
2. Is you name actually rainbow and if it is thats so awesome

message 161: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Rainbow! I just want to start off with saying that I read Eleanor and Park and I absolutely loved it! I pretty much fell in love with Park:) Anyways I really LOVE your name "Rainbow Rowell" but is that your real name or is it just a really cool name that you publish your books with?

message 162: by padfoot014 (new)

padfoot014 (gabriellightworm) ARE WE GETTING AN E&P SEQUEL? I AM SO UNSATISFIED WITH THE ENDING ( and with Attachments as well - I need more Lincoln in my life ) I LOVE YOUR WORK by the way. Can't wait for Landline:)

message 163: by Scott (new)

Scott Collins | 1 comments Dear Ms. Rowell,

I first would like to thank you for both "Eleanor And Park" and "Fangirl," two novels that made me fall heads over heels in love with reading AND writing all over again. Your work has won me over so completely, that I'll read whatever you write!

As for my questions, I was wondering if you happen to create "soundtracks" for yourself as you are writing each novel? I have been poking away at a novel for a very long time and I have made several soundtracks to help me get back into the right frame of mind as the songs tend to give me the "sound" and mood of what I am writing and I was wondering how music is weaved into your process?

Also, do you tend to write every day or just when you have the opportunities to do so?

Thank you!!!

Very sincerely,
Scott Collins

message 164: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra Javier (lunaalyeska) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! What made you decide to write an adult novel again (I've read Attachments) instead of the usual YA ones (which you were AMAZING at, especially with Fangirl)? And why a "time travel" (or something like it) kind of theme?

message 165: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin__frances) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow,
Although I love all your books, I especially enjoyed Fangirl and Attachments. I adore your writing style and I really loved the way these two in particular were organized (with the Simon Snow excerpts and the email conversations), it was a nice break from the monotonous structure and layout of many typical fiction books.

My question is: When you are writing do you have a go to writing snack that always helps motivate you or basically tells your brain that it is "productivity time"? - For me personally, when I was in college and I had to crank out a paper or something I would often bake one of those tubes of refrigerated Pilsbury cream cheese cinnamon rolls. Something about smelling that sugary goodness and knowing that I would reward myself with a cinnamon roll when I accomplished X number of quality pages just really helped me to get stuff done.

Thanks,
Erin

message 166: by K (new)

K (kahlle) | 1 comments 1. What gave you the idea to make Eleanor and Park those types of characters?

2. Do you know when the Eleanor and Park movie will be released?

3. Do you ever wonder if making you amazing book into a movie will cause non readers to see it and not read the book? I am only asking this because there are people in my school who only see movies with romance in it and then pretend that they know everything about the book

4. Are you making any new books??

Thank you for your time! I love your books Eleanor and Park and Fangirl!!! Please keep writing!!!

message 167: by Denise (new)

Denise | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! I love all of your books especially Eleanor & Park and Fangirl. I really love how realistic your characters and how they show their flaws as a person. What can you advice to all the teenagers (esp. girls) who are afraid to show their flaws?

message 168: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (catherineelizabeth728) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! I've only read Fangirl and Eleanor and Park, and I loved them both! How much of yourself and your own life experiences do you put into your beautifully flawed characters and their lives?

message 169: by Rekha (new)

Rekha (rekharavikumar) | 1 comments Hey Rainbow! Out of all the books you have written, which one makes you the proudest?

message 173: by Albena (new)

Albena Ruseva | 1 comments Hey Rainbow. Love your books. Is there a reason why the settling in Eleanor and Park is in 1980?

message 174: by Paty (new)

Paty Dávila (patydavilas) Hi Rainbow :)

I read Eleanor and Park and let me tell you that it's definitely on my favorite books list, for real I didn't expect that this book will make me think about the things I've done and teach me a lesson...
Anyways I just wanted to ask you why..
Why you decide to write it?
Why you ended it like that?
I mean three words are a lot of options (I love you, I hate you, I want food, you are dumb...etc (;)

message 175: by Josilyn (new)

Josilyn Sakura | 1 comments Hi my name is Josilyn and I love your fangirl book, which I couldn't put it down.

My question is that will there be any more future books your planing to write once you get more idea's after this book comes out? (In which I will hunt down or order it the book that is coming out soon.) :D and good luck!

Did you have am alternate ending for eleanor and park? Could you share it with us?
X

message 177: by Claudia (new)

Claudia Andrea | 1 comments Hi rainbow!

I loved so much Eleanor and Park! I love the way you joined the aspects of bullying in school, disfunctional familys and the lack of money when you have siblings and what I really love it´s that you don´t design the typical perfect guy and the classic bookworm, you introduce real people and broke all the rules of the stereotypes of couple; but I still have one question of the ending of the book, the last 3 words that Eleanor wrote to Park were "I love you" and why Eleanor didn´t want to answer all the letters that Park send to her?? i think I already have an answer but i would like you could answer me. Thank you:)

message 178: by Simei (new)

Simei Ruiz (simeiruiz) | 1 comments Hello Ms.Rainbow Rowell! =)

Eleanor & Park...Just amazing.

Is it really true that there will be a sequel?

I hope so cause the ending was such a cliffhanger but I'm still satisfied until the end.

Also, I've heard that it's gonna be a movie. I'm so excited!

message 179: by verygood (new)

verygood | 1 comments Hello!! So excited that you're doing this. I don't even know what to ask from all the questions that I have. Here's one:
Have you ever gone throught what your characters from any of your books gone through? Do you see yourself as one of them?

message 180: by Holly (new)

Holly Hello! You've set Attachments, Eleanor & Park, Fangirl and a lot of Landline in Nebraska. Do you think you'll continue to have Nebraska as the location in your future novels?

message 181: by [deleted user] (new)

Eleanor & Park is definitely one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Did you find it more challenging writing adult fiction compared to YA fiction? Did you feel people expected more from you because your books are mostly YA?

message 182: by Fiona (new)

Fiona Gandy (fionaegandy) Hi Rainbow!

I've recently just finished reading Eleanor & Park and I absolutely loved it! My question: Where do you get your ideas from when writing a YA novel? And out of all the books you've written, which character can you most relate to?

Thank you so much!
-Fiona

message 183: by Mina (new)

Mina (minathefangirl) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!

I really love your work, especially Fangirl because I can relate to Cath so much. I used to write fanfiction when I was in college too, but only recently started trying to write my own original stories. My question for you is: how did you decide which audience you wanted to write for? Whether it be for adults or YA, at which part of the writing process do you make that decision?

message 184: by Majken (new)

Majken | 1 comments First of all, Love your name! I mean, how many are named; Rainbow! <3
Also, I really adore your books and your writing!!
How do you come up with these stories!?
Q: When did you first start writing?
Q: Was the first book you submitted accepted and produced?

message 185: by Morgan (new)

Morgan Hello Rainbow( what an awesome name). I got really attached to Eleanor in E and P. I wonder how you were able to create such an original, real character. Instead of a typical love story, you had two real complex people who didn't fully accept themselves and I just would love to know who/what inspired you to tell their stories? Thank you!

message 186: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (scarlett0500) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!

I just wanted to say I met you at YALLFEST last November in Charleston, SC and you were so very nice and awesome. I was one of the last ones in line for your book signing and I loved how you greeted us like we were first in line. I've read Fangirl, Eleanor & Park, and Attachments and cannot wait for Landline. I'm a teen librarian and I recommend both Fangirl and Eleanor & Park to everyone and it never stays on the shelf very long.

My question is...do you currently have another YA book in development or planned? I'm sure you're super busy and I know I will read anything you write, but since I work with teens I'd love to see more of your books in my department.

Thanks for being such an amazing writer and person! I can't wait to read Landline, see the Eleanor & Park movie and read your future books!

Thank you so much!
Jennifer

amanda (amanda_pedersen) | 4 comments hi!!!!!!!
If you were to write a book with someone who would you like to write with?

which of the books you've written do you feel you most relate to?

message 188: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianelovesbooks) | 1 comments Hi Ms. RR!

I so love Eleanor and Park and until now I'm wondering what was that 3 words long that Eleanor written on the postcard for Park. I'm so curious about that three words that I keep thinking is it 'I LOVE YOU'? 'I MISS YOU?' 'SEE YOU SOON?' I really wanted to know. Please?

Anyway, I love you! You made me fall in love with your books! And I know your new book, Landline, will be as beautiful as your other books bec. it's still written by you! Even it's kinda' different genre, it's not YA romance right? But I'm still looking forward to it! Please come to Philippines :) xox

message 189: by Wen Yi (new)

Wen Yi Mah | 1 comments Hey Rainbow!

I've read all 3 of your books, and I'm planning to get Landline as soon as it's released. You're my favorite author and I love the way you put so much heart into these characters and all the words they say. Also, I love how you make readers like me identify with them so dearly, especially with Cath from Fangirl. Oh, and also making me develop little (major) crushes on Park and Levi.

Q1: Do you have a favorite book/author? Recommend us several books that you couldn't put down, please?

Q2: Do you prefer writing YA novels or adult novels? How different are those two?

Thank you very much Rainbow, for your characters, your stories, and for answering these questions if you happen to do so :)

message 190: by ❤ Jane ❤ (new)

❤ Jane ❤ (jothee) | 1 comments I loved Fangirl because I can relate to Cather a lot. What's your inspiration behind it? Do you write fanfiction? What do you think about Fanarts and Fanfiction?

message 191: by Virna (new)

Virna (walkinglibrary08) | 1 comments I really love Fangirl.

Q:Which one the most difficult to write, YA or Adult stories? Cant wait to read Landline :)

message 192: by Ivy (new)

Ivy | 2 comments Hello Rainbow. I'm a huge fan, 'Eleanor and Park' as well as 'Fangirl' had me laughing out loud and sobbing in almost equal measure. The ending of Eleanor and Park just completely flattened me, it's such a beautifully bittersweet book but I felt that the ambiguity of the ending didn't do their love justice. Can you explain what made you decide to end it that way? Did you have an alternate ending that would have been more conclusive/provided more closure for the readers?

message 193: by Charli (new)

Charli | 2 comments Hello! I absolutely adored Fangirl - I can't stop thinking about Cath and Levi!! I also really enjoyed Eleanor and Park, you create such wonderful vivid characters.
Did you have to do much research about Fanfiction when writing Fangirl? Or did you already know a lot about it?

message 194: by Rachel (last edited Jul 27, 2014 12:33PM) (new)

Rachel 💚 (slytherin_rach) Hi Rainbow. obsessed with your writing!

If you had to compare Fangirl, Attachments and Eleanor & Park to specific songs, what would they be and why?

p.s i just finished Landline, it was superb! will you ever write a book that i wont give a 5 star rating to? haha

message 195: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (nikkicrawford) What is your favourite book that you've written?
Personally, I like Fangirl the best.

message 196: by Regitze Xenia (new)

Regitze Xenia (regitzexenia) Hi RR.
First of, I love your books. Especially Fangirl, which is definitely my favourite :) As an aspiring writer, it just felt very true and relatable.

My question is;
When or how did you know that you wanted to be a writer?

I can't wait to read more books by you!

message 197: by Deema (new)

Deema | 1 comments Hi Rainbow! You are my favorite author i just love your books!! I just have one question about Eleanor and Park, after he dropped her off at the end of the book, he went and got a post card, and then in the last chapter he get the same postcard saying "I love you". My question is who sent the post card? Did he send it to her then she sent it back or what?

message 198: by salma (new)

salma (melisandrae) | 2 comments Hi, Rainbow! I absolutely adore your writing and I've completed two of your books, Eleanor & Park and Fangirl and I've started attachments. I was just wondering; when did you officially start writing books properly? and do you ever let anyone read your book while you're writing it or are you a first draft only type of author?

message 199: by Giulio (new)

Giulio (feelthebookburn) | 1 comments Hi Rainbow!
I recently discovered your amazing books thanks to Booktube.
I read them all and was marveled on how the writing flows so well and your characters are so quirky and funny. VERY TALENTED. =)

My Question is: Who was your favorite character to write about? If you could be, marry or kill someone from your books who would you choose?

KEEP UP THE BOOKS. I NEED THEM.

message 200: by Abby (new)

Abby J (abbehjeh) | 1 comments Hi! I'm a huge fan, and your new book Landline looks really good, but I noticed it's marked as Adult. Will YA readers still enjoy and/or be able to fully comprehend this book? I'm looking forward to its release!
Stay classy,
Abby
