Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Rotter.

I'm in the deeply self-pitying stage of a cold so this is me procrastinating and not writing at all. I'm running out of time for today's deadline.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Hope you soon feel better, Lexie.

I'm editing so only 174 words today - but hey, I read lot!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Lexie hope you feel better soon, David, oh well, I'm sure they'll get him in the end.

Sorted out two mailings and finally managed to write something. About 2k that I'm really pleased with.

Sorry you don't feel well - I'm in the same boat. Between coughs and meds, my brain works not at all.

Today was the last steroid pill - wonder how long it will take to wear off. I miss my brain.

At least someone is getting writing done. Kudos!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Mwahahahargh, I've felt like that all week while you guys wrote and I had sponge brain. I've been a lot sharper the last few days so I'm making the most of it. :-)

message 260: by Lexie (new)

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Brain nearly back together, thanks, everyone! Probably not going to be able to write till later than usual today, and maybe not at all tomorrow, so we'll see what happens! Well done, M.T.!

message 261: by David (new)

David Hadley Will wrote: "How inconsiderate of him, David."

Only around 300 words today, but the protagonist is about to remind the baddie about what should happen next.

It should all be over and done with by the end of next week, but at the moment the whole thing looks like a failure, maybe even beyond saving, unless I can think of a way of fixing it.

Lexie Conyngham | 1297 comments Maybe it'll look better when you read through it again - often does even when it feels like a disaster as you go along!

message 263: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I still keep getting distracted by work. My new 3d project is a cracker - a town hall/city hall interior, which exhibits some of the best in government joined up thinking. For example the lifts for disabled access are at the top of a short flight of stairs, and only stop at alternate floors. The only access to the top floor is via the fire escape, which is locked . . .

David Hadley Lexie wrote: "Maybe it'll look better when you read through it again - often does even when it feels like a disaster as you go along!"

That's true. Both my current 2nd & 3rd drafts felt like rubbish when I'd finished their respective 1st drafts.

But I think this one has far more problems. It was an experiment in trying to write something different and it may not have worked as well as I hoped it would.

Stevo (stevop) | 31 comments Just a couple of paragraphs of a short story. It will possibly be around 10k words when I get a first draft done. I've had a lot of free time today so I could probably have got close to finishing the first draft but I don't like 'forcing' the words to come/ Goodreads is only ever a click away. Like the opening poster, I've been playing around with some short form fiction since knackering myself with Nanowrimo. On the plus side, the short story that came out straight after closing my Nanowrimo 2016 to let it breathe, has become the first thing I plucked up the courage to stick up on the Kindle store! So that's progress. It's nice to get away from the Nanowrimo pressure and let the words come out more organically rather than aiming for 50k in a month.

(I so want to use that 50% off voucher from Nanowrimo to get Scrivener. I've only five or six uses of the trial version left!)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 897 words today. A new idea I had (in the middle of the night, like you do!) was incorporated and had added, I hope, yet another unsettling idea.

yes the other day I had a bright idea in the middle of the night and replaced the final two sentences of a story with one word
So I was 'unwriting' :-)

Absolutely par for the course!

Feeling delighted today over 1,000 words. I may even manage some more. I think I've worked out what was wrong with the story. It's always splendid when that happens.

Stereo typing, that is.

My problem persists.

To kill, or not to kill, that is the question.
Is it nobler in the mind to make her suffer
The hurts and pains of an outrageous escape
Or let her take arms against a sea of monsters
And by opposing slaughter them instead?
No, it is not environmentally sound to wreak
Such devastation upon them and vile
opprobium or scorn may ensue.
To die then? Or to sleep, enchanted for a time?
To sleep, to dream: aye there's the rub
for what dreams perchance may be visited
upon her to bear may make welcome the sleep of death.

I haven't written anything since Thursday - big meetings, too tired. Back to work on Monday.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've just downloaded the trial of scrivener, it looks like it might work well for my way of writing (can't write in a logical way, keep coming up with ideas for nearer the end!). So I've got everything sorted into it, just about to do some writing now :)

message 287: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Spent most of the day rewriting a chapter that I realised needed more work. Didn't keep track of how many words were added but I'm guessing about 1000.

We had a never ending story thread in here for a while, if I recall correctly.

Shall I resurrect it?

I like how it counts as thirty uses and not thirty days. I've gone back to using Pages now and I'm really rationing out my last uses of Scrivener. It seems like a good application, doesn't it? I don't really find that I *need* all it's functions because I don't really take that scattergun approach it expects you to...! Still, I like to have the option, and I did enjoy copying a story in and dividing it up into parts, chapters and... chapterlets?

How you finding it?

message 292: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 432 since I got back from a day in Scarborough. This novella isn't far from finished now, I think.

message 293: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments So this is what I posted in the writing contest thread last night, doh!
Written about 900 words, changed the names of my main characters (again!), realised I probably have some flaws in my plan and decided I don't really care at the moment, I'll work them out later and got a good idea of how my flashbacks will work out :)

message 294: by David (new)

David Hadley 1148 today.

Edging closer to the end, some threads to tie up and then that is it.

Then on to the next 1st draft in the list.

Unless I decide to do something completely different.

Mind you, I have started a flash mob. It can't be a cliche if they don't have pitchforks, can it?
