Jim | 21809 comments I discovered that writing the nonfiction was actually a positive thing that helped my writing :-)

or to look at it more positively, you're practicing your craft so you're getting better :-)

Lee A. | 29 comments I don't tend to focus on word count, but I have written one and a half chapters today 😊

Nice job. No focusing on word count is required really, we’re just trying to keep each other chipper and keep going.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Did 1,650 on the non fiction today. Not bad considering the day I’ve had!

message 2707: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Did 1,003 on the non fiction today, 188 on the fiction yesterday, 370 the day before and 270 the day before that. Not much is happening but things are still moving!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Took a giant step back in productivity by packing everything up and moving it to another apartment. I hope it doesn't take too long to get back to writing - I was just starting to write fiction again.

So many boxes!

message 2709: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments I didn’t write anything this weekend either, had my brother and family to stay and a dinner party! ;-)

message 2710: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I twiddled. Wrote a bit, shifted a bit, deleted a bit. You know, that editing thing.

message 2711: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes I just edited and got stuff ready for a blog tour.

message 2712: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I added a few words, and some line breaks, to the scene I thought was finished - starting to get back to work after a week of being wiped out by moving.

Mostly, started thinking about the writing, which is key to being able to write. I thought I was finished. I also thought it was a bit blah, and apparently so did my subconscious, which asked a question...

Better than letting readers think it's blah.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Have done about 130 - 200 words a day this week as with McMini off I've been editing, and enjoying it thoroughly, which is a good sign. Unfortunately, it's monthly brain fog time so the usual good ideas you get when you edit may not stick, but I've written some down so there should be a couple of scenes I can do to push it forward when I'm done.

Cheers

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Finally got a decent run at it. 1038 today, although I have managed to keep things going most of the rest of the week. McOther is away though so I got a chance to do my mailing last night instead of today, and writing today instead of a mailing ...

Cheers

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Just popping back to see how everyone’s doing. I did 500 words today, although I was editing so I was really chuffed with that. Haven’t done very well writing after a couple of dodgy months with the old dears.

message 2716: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Yes I've been distracted, catching up after the computer went down, keeping up with a blog tour, and generally having to work as well

message 2717: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments And I've been editing. No new words but that should change after Easter.

message 2718: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Been trying to set up my book on Kobo today. Bit daunted by the thought of having to do marketing etc but will have to take things one step at a time.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Character doesn't want to do what I need her to do, so I'm going to have to spend some space letting her tell her psychiatrist why not. She's getting difficult on me, and she has to do this.

Why can't children just do what they're told?

message 2720: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I always found with Tallis that it was easier just to let him get on with it :-)

But yes, in the years 'Before Tallis' I was trying to write something with a different protagonist and it just didn't flow. It was damned hard work
And then my new protagonist stepped over Benor asleep on a barge and suddenly it became so much easier to write. I think that some characters are like that, stories pour out of them and you have to run behind with a note pad to keep up!
Others are just hard work

Those others will have to get someone else to tell their stories. Their loss.

Yes I think it's best when you have characters who sort of 'flow' for you. They create stories around them :-)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Wrote about 300 new words yesterday, and rearranged the previous hundred or so, as I finally found the path through this scene.

After the home tour the spouse agreed to for next Sunday, and for which he is promising to finish unpacking the boxes (!!!), I refuse to schedule anything for a long time.

And figure out how to get to sleep before 3 am. I think it's stress, and that ends Sunday.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Been wrestling for a few days with formatting problems that only emerged when trying to put the book onto the Kobo platform ... groan. So this has put back publication for a little while.

There are times when I have a strong dislike of technology :-(

message 2726: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I actually wrote 450 yesterday on a new project!

But on the upside, the next Space Opera will be released next week, and the fifth in the series a few weeks later once it is back from the editor

message 2727: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wow everyone, you have all been very busy, congratulations and commiserations. I dislike technology, too.

Excuse my long absence, my email alerts aren't working and I've been working on my new release, needless to say the one that has to come out first was the one that needed the most editing. I think it's now good enough to send to an editor. The cover is pretty much done, which means that, in theory, I can launch it as soon as the editor is finished.

I've written the blurbs and am in the throes of deciding on the titles, with some help from my email list, I hope and others ...

If any of you want to have a go at that, the relevant blog post, etc, is here https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2019/04/27/wh....

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Just published on Kindle and Kobo though it hasn't yet gone live on Kobo. Now need to work out lots of complicated stuff like Draft2Digital and printing .... plus get myself an author page on here (UK group I mean) which I hope is quite easy. And do I need to ask Goodreads to set up my book or do I wait till some feed comes in from Amazon? That would only have the Kindle version of course.

message 2736: by Pam (last edited Apr 30, 2019 08:22AM) (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Well I tried to create a new thread in Meet the Authors but Goodreads ate the content and told me "There is a problem with your topic" so bit stymied at present.

It's OK I got over it - because it was showing various books as the topic and none were mine as it isn't appearing on GR yet, I tried to avoid it by putting in a full stop. Tried again and it does allow me to type my name and ignore the suggestions so the thread is created now. Hooray!

message 2737: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The book will come through from Amazon by itself - usually within 12- 24 hours.

message 2738: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Thanks Kath. Just found out it has gone onto Kobo so will add that link to my thread.

message 2739: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Kath wrote: "The book will come through from Amazon by itself - usually within 12- 24 hours."

I sort of 'get round' that problem by publishing the book a week or so before I want to 'publish it' and start promoting it. That way I get the hiccups out of the way and can also share the url with those doing the blog tour

message 2740: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 500 today. Exactly. I bet I can't do that again!

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Kath wrote: "The book will come through from Amazon by itself - usually within 12- 24 hours."

It did appear last night Kath and I did my best just now to add the ebook (epub) version. Only a partial success as the book page now shows Other editions (1) but no little thumbnail and says 'None found'. However, if I click All editions, the page then shows both. So not sure what I haven't done right.

message 2743: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I did a talk on horror last night at my old writers group in Swansea.
Interesting time: first I found that my friend who writes as Catrin Collier and Kathryn John has got her rights back from her publishers to self publish her 40 books on Amazon. Fancy that? An established author going indie!

Then an indian lady I had never met told everyone who she was now published with Author House. And having paid them over £ 2K to release her book was seriously about to invest another £ 4K in their marketing package.

Clearly I'm in the wrong trade...

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Nice going peps, glad the release glitches sorted themselves I've been a bit off at counting words, I keep forgetting to reset the thingumbut I've done all the shorts but needless to say, I need to expand the shortest one, which comes in second! How annoying is that. May just add another story or something. Not sure yet as I think I could ramp it up to some more action from where it's supposed to end. It was written for an anthology so it's only 10k and it needs to be 20k to fit with the others really. Thought that wouldn't be any trouble, now I'm not so sure. I might swap it with one of the others to give myself more space.

It's weird, I love writing short stories but I am seriously hankering after something that goes deeper.

Anyway, I wrote a blog today. I think it's quite a good one as far as those go ... https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2019/05/04/oh... if anyone's interested. ;-)

Also sorry I keep missing posts, my notifications have stopped working.

Cheers

MTM

No worries, I cocked up the link. I changed it after a while but not before a few people had tried to vote and discovered they couldn’t. I got enough information to give me a steer!

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Wrestled with a few problems on Draft2Digital yesterday. Think I have resolved them but need to check the book thoroughly again and also make the slight technical changes to the copy on Kobo too just to keep things consistent.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Bless you! I love the tinkering when I’ve written something and I have time to let it rest and primp it a bit before I sign it off but I find all the coding and making files a real dirge. I’m trying a different tack this time and I’ve download Jutoh and am going to see if I can make my own ePub. So far it looks reasonably straightforward so fingers crossed.

Cheers

MTM
