Today I mostly wrote ... the word count thread.
Blimey yes, the people in my head never shut up. I find it especially bad - or is that good - since I've been on the 10 minutes a day thing. It really has been 10 minutes this past couple of weeks but it's still 250 words a day and it's all getting slowly where I want it to. I'm actually looking forward to totting up how many words I've written this year when the time comes.Cheers

Over a thousand this morning and the short story is standing at 5218. Off out for lunch soon. It's much better being better, if you know what I mean!

I am literally a nadge away from completing my short, it's just finding the time to do it. But I have one more scene to write so I reckon it'll come in at about 15/16k, something like that. Then I think I will expand the Christmas one. I can't use it until next year because it's in an anthology for this Christmas, but I cut a lot out to make it 10k and I think the extra words would be quite fun and would take it up to about 13, which is more in line with the others. I put an excerpt up on my blog and people even liked it so I'm dead chuffed!

About 300 today but I wedged it between decorating the church or a wedding this morning and the dental hygienist this aft. Glad to get anything done.

Oh and the Tallis blog is now live, at 3000 words it definitely falls into the short story category :-)Treat yourself, have lunch with Mutt ;-)

Loving the Tallis Jim.Eee I've a new 10k story out in an anthology so I've been doing all the admin to support that today, or at least, doing the blog post, web page on my site, etc etc. If anyone's interested,

That is not entirely impossible :-)
About 600 words today, I think. Vague because I can't remember where I finished last time and I forgot to look at the word count when I got stuck in today. Anyway, the short story is finished at a sniff under 7,500 words. Going to leave it to fester for a bit before editing.
I will try not to end 2018 without any new words of fiction - someone came up to me in the dining room and said she couldn't wait for the sequel. However, something's gone wrong with my stored ARCs, mobi and epub, so I have to figure it out before I send any more - and I just can't face figuring out what Amazon might have done, because I sure didn't touch them! That will be a huge expenditure of energy.
I bought myself a Fire at a ridiculously low price to replace my dear departed Kindle. I need to be able to sideload the mobi file onto an actual device first - it might not even be the file, but the people I sent it to (hoping against hope).
Happy writing! Happy New Year writing!
Just recovering.I totted up what I'd done this year.
Published six fantasy novellas and a collection of dogs, quads and sheep tales!
Nice, not sure what I've done yet, haven't had time to add it all up. Might do that tomorrow maybe. It's 5 shorts and moving a novel from 40K to 90K so it's going well. ;-)Cheers

Jim wrote: "it's worth having a tot up, it can give you a boost realising how much you have actually done! :-)"Absolutely, I will but the fog has set in badly today! Jeez it was like smoke while I tried to do the wages. Also, it’s McMini’s last day at home so I’ll probably do it tomorrow when he goes back to school. It was at 131 end of November and I’ve written a 13? 15? 18? K short since then. ;-)
There’s also something properly weird going on at the moment, mostly to do with Mum and Dad, and I’ve realised that this extraordinary, weird thing is total book fodder, think, round Ireland with a fridge or something. Sadly, I can’t say anything about it (for legal reasons snortle) until it comes together - remember the time there was a chance I might end up writing a children’s TV series? It’s kind of similar in that it would be a game changer and there’s only a very slim chance it’ll come off. However, it’s so weird that I’m writing a diary of my ‘journey’ if you like, through the process. If my efforts come off, I’ll be laughing and so will a lot of other folks. If it doesn’t I’ll still be laughing because I’ll have a book out of it!

Total for 2018: 166,3914 shorts:
9,815k
19,976
18,964
23,394
54,790 on the novel.
22,684 on the non fiction
Holy smokes! This 10 minutes a day lark is good! Over half of that lot was written between 7.10 and 7.30 am on weekdays. Weekends tended to be the blog. I'm stoked. ;-)

Alicia wrote: "Good job, MT. Real progress - and under trying conditions plus holidays. Wow!"Thanks, yes, I’m incredibly happy about that. When I think that all I wrote the year before was an 18k short which took me May and June. What is weird is that the novel has still progressed about as much as it would have done were I writing nothing else with it. The only thing I want to step up a bit is the new series because I keep having funny ideas about it so I know it’s going to be fun to write, but I want to try and find a way to handle it in sections, because I seem to write better that way, case in point, the shorts!

you see what I meant about actually stopping to count it :-)Seriously given the issues you've got at the moment it's an amazing total. Hope the other project comes good as well.
Thanks. :-) I take that as a huge compliment from someone who runs a farm, earns a living with articles about farming and writes in his 'spare time' and then writes loads of books on top.Cheers

I did the next chapter for a blog tour, and my blog today but I'm going to have to revisit the chapter
I've been reading this thread on my email updates for ages. I never have time to visit when I'm writing! Well done, everybody.Must catch up with my flash fiction writing before I jump into the next big project.
Come to think of it, I wrote about 3000 words today, since I did my guest post for next weekend (what I learnt writing a serial last year) and 'helped' Bertie write his blog post for tomorrow.3000 down, 36200 to go...

Top going peps! 820 words before 7.50 am. Not that I’m smug or anything! Also I have a new short that is just yelling at me to be written. Prequel for Space Dustmen as in, how Driff ends up working for the Government Salvage Operation - it might be Government Salvage Company.Cheers

Thanks for all the support, fellow writers.First finished draft of the scene in question - just under 1600 words, with almost everything that will eventually be in there, and a logical flow.
Phew! If you've been following my troubles after moving, you'll know this is a big deal.
I fought off all kinds of challenges today, and focused - doing the absolute minimum in every other category with the excuse that "I'm writing!"
Not half bad, and will polish up nicely, and join its fellows. Plus I have all the steps in my 'process' back into the mix, and it really helps.
Yay! Fistbump Alicia! Nice going. Nothing much but editing so far today although when I've done the wages and some other stuff I'm hoping to get the short going. It's difficult to start so I'll just have to write my way in until I get to the good bits and tidy up the beginning afterwards.Cheers

So far today i have done 300 words on a fantasy ballad I'm working on - not much but i guess all the words count ☺
I needed to write something and thought I'd better make sure my facts were rightSo currently reading
F. Reiff · M. Bartels · M. Gastel · H. M. Ortner
Investigation of contemporary gilded forgeries of ancient coins
Just so Benor gets it right :-)

Sounds good. I know nothing about gold but I do know of folks who’ve dug up what look like medieval hammered coins only to discover that they’re medieval forgeries!
