They also have the advantage of not being extinct.
Gingerlily - They also have the advantage of not being extinct. .."Which is true, but perhaps it was being used in huge numbers to support the world that led to their extinction, and they were then replaced with turtles?
The dodo was the first attempt. After the trial period they decided to go with something more stackable and less squishable. And more plentiful.
Did a bit of editing today. Glad this thread is continuing to be a bit nuts in my absence.Cheers all

Jim wrote: "nuts, that would do it, stackable nuts"But are any nuts actually stackable? Most of them are a rounded or irregular shape. How about bars of peanut brittle? They would certainly be stackable.
I've written nearly two thousand words to an author! Then a very few words to my writing blog. I never have time to read long blog posts so I assume others are the same. But now I'm a few hundred into the book so I hope to crack a thousand (or as near as possible) for that before I need to sort out tea.
180 yesterday 288 today but a fair bit of rejigging and one is done ready to send to an anthology! Woot.Plus I now have the beginnings of another short ready to work on and the short-turned-long is gelling a bit more. And I made myself laugh out loud when one of my characters hid a portal in his mouth and accidentally swallowed it. He’s now taken a dose of salts and is waiting in the lavvy with a colander. Sorry too much information.
Holiday is lovely, we are in Haro at the moment, in Spain. Tapas last night, posh dinner tonight.
Cheers

I've got a story line for the next Banned Underground! Courtesy of a piece of news seen on Facebook, which just goes to show.

BTW I got the obscured by clouds joke in your latest. ;-)

I was playing the album (on vinyl, of course) while writing that chapter!
1,200 today. Not sure they will escape a substantial rewrite but the gist of the argument is there. Lots of ideas though, which is handy but can be perplexing. Big pooing to be made and I keep wanting to try and make it in to many scenes but at the same time, when I find the right place ...

Yes, ok, but we don't usually post about it!
M.T. wrote: "Omg! Big point! Fucking auto correct. Mwahahahaaargh!"Hahahahahaha! I really couldn't figure out what you meant to say. I thought McMini had taken over your iPad or something.
Did 380 or something yesterday and today have done 600 and something so far, may do a few more as there’s another half hour or so on the motorway.Cheers

It needs a damned good editing as the plot evolved as I wrote. I didn't want to break the thread of the writing by going back and adding characters or changing things, so that's got to be done in second draft. Then I'll get my editor to have a look. He's great on strengthening plot points and sorting out my story. Then I'll listen to it on my kindle to pick up tiny things I'm not happy with. In between, I have a book I want to publish at the end of September that I want to have another go through - and the editor has a 12k short story to have a look at first. So - it takes as long as it takes.
I'm at the stage where I realise that the Norns may have woven a different story to the one I started telling :-)
Actually it's interesting.Benor is perhaps more cynical, more suspicious, more likely to spot things.
But of course with him, I write as narrator.
Tallis, whilst not thick, and not overly trusting, is 'somewhat' self-absorbed so does tend to overlook things that might seem obvious because he's too busy thinking about something else.
And of course he's the narrator.
So it's tricky getting the balance with him :-)
I find that things definitely alter from the way I’ve perceived. Case in point the ‘short’ now at about 78k. The bits I thought might be hard to make credible seem to be hanging together with far more realism than I thought while some of the other bits, which I thought would be easy, aren’t hanging together so well. Did 200 words yesterday but not much meaty writing. Have missed the window today - it’s meet the parents day and we’re doing a late one, leaving at 5.30 and home at 8.30. Should be fun though, McMini’s cousins are there.Cheers

Woot over 500 today, left it in the middle of a difficult scene which I'm handling rather ham fistedly at the moment but I think once I know what I'm doing more it will straighten out.
