Today I mostly wrote ... the word count thread.
Nice going. Still editing the short for the anthology. Also have to write the begging email about it being too long.
Re-reading the book yet again .... keep finding things groan, not typos but minor continuity things.
Well done, Will. Sometimes you read your work so often you know it by heart, Pam. There's always something.
Nice going Will.Keep going Pam, continuity can be really frustrating.
1813 today on the K’Barthan short-turned-long. Woot.
Alicia wrote: "Wow, MT!"I can’t believe it either. The whole keep it small and manageable thing seems to be working.
Alicia wrote: "The key is your brain remembers where you are, picks up story, goes on."That’s true and it’s something my brain hasn’t been able to do for a long time. It may well stop as we are coming up to a holiday and I can’t see my managing to write then but I could end up doing some of the non fiction in the car and at least that’s something!

Could you not rig up a Dictaphone with voice to text on the computer? Then you could dictate text while driving about and sort it out later
Will wrote: "Could you not rig up a Dictaphone with voice to text on the computer? Then you could dictate text while driving about and sort it out later"Voice to text doesn’t work for me ... my voice appears to be too British and posh for it to understand, so it manages about five words in seven, and it only understands about a third of my vocabulary. The result is about one correct word in three and all the punctuation written out in long, full stop (even saying period - snortle - doesn’t work).
It’s fine. McOther finds it less stressful if I don’t drive so I won’t be driving, I’ll have the iPad on my lap. This one comes with a keyboard. It’s brilliant. It’s more a case that we’ll be travelling, packing, unpacking every other night and hanging out with friends all the time so the trick will be finding moments other than the dead stuff in the car. I will probably hand write stuff in my remarkable as well, plot things etc.
Cheers

Today the whole house woke up at the same time so there was no writing. We had friends round. No writing. Then Mum and Dad's washing machine broke. It has a service agreement, if it's buggered they'll give us a new one. But they can't even come and look at it for two fucking weeks. We pay 188 a year for this stupid fucking policy so that if something goes wrong my incontinent parents get clean bedsheets every day without a hiccup. Two weeks is a big fucking hiccup.
This afternoon I will mostly be railing at Domestic and General and then probably Miele.
Two weeks is not acceptable. Call back and speak to the manager and insist on being on a waiting list. Also, tell them they can come take the sheets every day and return clean ones until it is fixed.Call every day looking for a cancellation.
It may encourage them to shorten your wait time.
Solid 900 yesterday, so I'm happier. If the contract doesn't say anything about timefreames, MT, I'd start quoting the statutory right to reasonable time.
Time to start thinking about the next couple of projects, so this next week is research and planning while the last novella cools off
No words yet, but I have been going through the boxes and boxes of writing notes and old drafts to see what makes it to California, and am dumping paper by the bagful.Sometimes you just have to admit you aren't going to write that one. And it would be baffling to your heirs to see your notes.
Clearing the decks.
Plus finding lots of notes for the current and future trilogy volumes. This counts for something, I'm sure.

Might make them think, might even provoke them into writing
I've not been killed off by an author for few years.Must try harder.
Or pretend to work for Mary's parent's stupid fucking insurance company.
That'd kill me off in no time.
Oh. Bought a watch today. Timex I'd had for five years died. Took it to timesons down Morrison's. 9.95 for a new battery. Paid 19 quid for the bloody thing. Oh, alright then, put a new battery in.
Battery is dead, but the watch still needs mending. Another 14.95.
What the eff, charging 5p less makes it worthwhile?
Went over the road and bought exactly the same watch for 9quid on offer.
Erm.
Sorry. More free writing than word count...
420 on Wednesday and also rang and bollocked the stupid effing insurers and the guy is now coming this morning. Phew.
PS Alicia, I’m with Pam, keep the notes! ;-)Just done 1200 in 40 mins. Have to finish up now though. It’s time to wake McMini and turn back into Mumzilla. ;-)
Cheers

1214. Just 200 to go to 50k but my brain is tired and I'm at the end of a chapter and won't have time to finish that.

Timsons do a pay £25 and then they replace the battery every time it breaks forever. I’ve had my watch, and the timson’s card, for about 15 years. How they must hate me. ;-)

Mwahahahaahrgh! Sorry but yes that’s three votes for keeping it. Alicia, I hope you’re reading! ;-)
Ok Patti - I drabbled...Murder
Patti paced up and down the flat, thinking deeply.
"How can I get an author to kill me?" she mused.
Dave glanced away from the football.
"Why?"
"Dunno" she said "It just feels so good"
Dave snorted and turned back to the TV.
Suddenly a masked man burst through the door with a machete. He leapt at Patti with a horrific scream.
"Take that, you twisted woman! You don't deserve a good man like Dave."
With two wild swings he slashed her open.
She died on the floor surrounded by blood and guts, a satisfied smile on her face.

Well, I would, except I'm in such pain from packing, and no one seems to understand the concept of moving into a 787 sq. ft. 1-BR apartment, with a storage locker 4 x 5 x 6.5 feet. And no, I'm not running all over Davis and Sacramento looking for extra storage. It's not going unless it is essential to my writing. I have truly lost the desire to tell the story of a juror who was raped finagling herself, by lying, onto the jury of the trial of the rapist for something else. Consider this my gift to anyone of you writers not already cursed by way too many stories of your own.
It was my attempt to make something useful out of the 3.5 days I sat in the Mercer County Courthouse (which I will no longer have access to after the move) between being kicked off two juries by pre-emptive charges (ie, no reasons need be given), once by a defense attorney, another time by a prosecutor. Enough! I told the Jury Manager I was doing my civic duty under conditions of rather intense pain (worsened by their chairs) and chronic illness, and if they weren't even going to use me, could I please leave? He took pity.
So no, as I am no longer able to even be called for jury duty, this one went into the recycling bin. A banker's box of paper not having to make the journey. And there are possibly some computer files somewhere...
It's called triage.

OK ... I can see that now. ;-) I do empathise with the packing. My knees are bad enough, something like CFS. Not fun.
Hope the packing and chucking are soon done.

Hmmmm
320 today in my 20 minute window. A little slower as I’m kind of knocking a scene into shape, but at the same time, I’m hoping it’s reasonably funny. Back on the K’Barthan short-turned-long again and realised it’s 71k now! Woot!Cheers all
