Joseph | 19 comments Does the title of your next* flash/short story collection count towards wordcount? Because if it does I have written at least two words today.

*assuming you actually finish it

Blimmin marvellous!

It's two words that weren't there yesterday so yes. :-)

message 1905: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Another 467. Story now stands at 6700.

message 1906: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Way to go. I haven't had a brain in days (this moving and travelling thing consumes brains), and I'm getting very itchy about it.

Put up more free to the public Patreon posts - I really do have an awful lot of background material, and found myself interested in my own process - so threw it up for anyone else who might be - they say to put up lots of posts.

Even with introductions and conclusions, I don't consider those posts 'writing,' because they're not fiction, but several thousand new words have gone into them.

message 1907: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I put down about 1200 yesterday to bulk up the Welsh Legends book a little.

Just need to sort out the second CD this week, then I'll launch the whole lot into, well silence, probably. Just as well the process is fun, isn't it?

message 1908: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Supposedly audio versions are doing very well.

Best wishes - and yes, it must have been fun. And you're well ahead of most of us.

message 1909: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've now prepared the short book of Welsh Legends for Amazon release at the end of next week. In a day or so, ACX should allow me to set up an audiobook. I'll have a go, and report on my experience.

message 1910: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 352 yesterday and I was on a roll today with another 1077. Progress.

message 1911: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Just an interesting thing. To order 10 of these books from Createspace, with author discount and shipping, will cost me around $ 55.

Running the books on Amazon at the lowest possible price, I'm getting them for under £ 30 and 3 weeks earlier.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Kath wrote: "352 yesterday and I was on a roll today with another 1077. Progress."

Very definitely progress. Must feel good.

We're packing - and my small attempts at writing keep getting trounced.

message 1913: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Glad everyone's stuff is going well, Alicia and I are clearly in the same boat today. Onwards and upwards!

message 1914: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I can write by myself - but I can't pack by myself - so the weekend is MINE!

After a while, keeping the decorators from deciding to paint polished, finished wood white for some unnamed house buyers takes the energy out of me. The answer is no. It's criminal. I remember crying when trying to reverse the effect of that decision back in my college days - philistines!

message 1915: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 179 words only, but in fairness, I've been out to my friends for lunch, had my hair cut and beta-read two chapters for someone else.

message 1916: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments This weekend it's Llandeilo Literary festival, so I'm performing and selling, not writing

message 1917: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Stopped writing and went back to put some plot into it! I was enjoying writing so much I'd forgotten to put in the depth and complexity ;-)

message 1918: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Parish magazine and the death an uncle to deal with so probably won't write anything for the next two weeks. Ho hum.

message 1919: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Life gets in the way, doesn't it?
1024 today - it's picking up momentum - just when I only have a couple of sections to go!

message 1920: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Managed this week and next week's blog posts. Woot.

Cheers

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Set up the next 6 scenes in my Patreon - these will be paid ($1 is the lowest Patreon will let me set); and no one has seen them but my beta reader.

Not many patrons yet, but they don't tell you if you've had anyone drop by to view or actually read.

Two a month until I get settled in California (if we EVER get there). This takes me into June.

message 1922: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments 893 words today. Short story now stands ar 10,224.

message 1923: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Still slogging away on the edit. Ho hum .......

message 1924: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments A couple more posts for the Patreon in the chute; they are fairly long and need editing after I extract the pieces from the Production files I keep while writing.

Also a blog post, and another scheduled (we're going on vacation).

Sold a number of ebooks at full price whose royalties will go to Dr. Tuller's ME/CFS investigative journalism fundraiser! Feels good to do that from the writing; my personal contribution already went in.

So writing, yes; fiction, no - communicated with new Indian friend over details of naming a Maharajah's estate, research for fiction, if not fiction.

Better than nothing, but the packing ladies for our household stuff - to be removed as much as possible before carpet installation (ours is 37 years old) - come tomorrow, and I have to be ready to tell them what to pack where for every single item in several rooms. We will still be living here while the house is on the market, plus looking for a forever home in California, so it's crucial I be able to find my sandals and bathing suits for vacation with the kids, and they can't be in one of 17 boxes labelled, "Misc." Can't wait until this part is over.

message 1925: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Good luck, Alicia!

860 today and the short story now stands at 11,084. Still another scene to go. At least!

message 1926: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Seconded with the good luck wishes Alicia. I have mostly finished the Parish magazine today which is chuffing marvellous as it means I can write tomorrow!

Also scheduled a blog post for next week but it has to go the week after really so I need to write another one, booo!

Cheers

Thanks, Kath. Survived the first four hours - they packed an amazing amount of things - like voice-activated robots. Tomorrow, they return with more boxes.

I'd rather have your word count, but this has to be done.

message 1928: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments This is curious.. the paperbacks I ordered from Amazon UK rather than from CS did indeed arrive within a couple of days of ordering: and they were printed in Poland.

message 1929: by M.T. (last edited May 01, 2018 05:05AM) (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Maybe they're using Ingram Spark. Remember LuLu? All their books used to be printed by Ingram.

But do they list Createspace as the printer? Anywhere on the paperwork? Amazon usually uses its closest distributor; maybe Createspace is printing now in Poland.

It may be different now but originally I'd heard that Createspace used Lightning Source in the UK and Europe, which is also Ingram. Not sure if that's true now though.

message 1932: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Another 900-odd and the story's done. Just a shade over 12k. Wonder what I'll do with it!

message 1933: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Release it as a short?

message 1934: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Probably. Anthologies aren't all that popular.

message 1935: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I do sell print copies of my collections of short stories at cons/book fairs. And I think shorts manage quite well on Amazon

message 1936: by Will (last edited May 02, 2018 01:39AM) (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've been trying to get a listing on Amazon for my Cd of storytelling.

Frankly, the Brexit negotiations seem less complex.

Ebay was straightforward, of course

message 1937: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments best of luck :-)

message 1938: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Seconded, best of luck Will.

I've managed about 1,500 words over the last couple of days but, of course, I've deleted about 3k!

message 1939: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've given up on Amazon. It's too complex.

message 1940: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thursday and Friday did 1,500 over all.
Will, I'm sorry to hear that, although if you're getting a following it may sell best at your gigs anyway!

Did a blog post today, a happier one. https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/05/05/ch...

message 1941: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Second CD finished, organised packaged, and delivered to the company that produces the actual things.

Next up, the audiobook. I've now got ACX permissions to go ahead, since I have a physical book with the same title available on Amazon, which is the first requirement.

message 1942: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Nice going Will.

Was too knackered to do fiction today. Was feeling a bit blue so decided I had to try and write something and managed 2,532 of the non fiction stuff. Then I was so pumped I had an idea for a short, have done an outline of the basics now, I need to whip it into shape so I can write it by numbers before I start but I might manage to do that tomorrow - I can hope.

Tomorrow, I also need to look at a proper plan for Space Dustmen if I can; detailed enough to write that by numbers. AND need to check I'm still on track with the K'Barthan w.i.p.

This doing more than one at a time is definitely working.

Cheers

MTM

message 1943: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments That's good MT. Still struggling on with my edit, seems to take forever ....

message 1944: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I wrote thousands of words yesterday.

None of them were fiction. :-(

message 1945: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I'm now going to have to sit and think about a proper marketing strategy for my sci fi, with a release date determined in June. Rather be writing, but...

message 1946: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Good luck with all that folks. This week is recovery and also fixing the stuff I bust last week, like my car and just insane amounts of admin; cat is having his innoculations, car shited, gym programme up for renew, eye test due, have to ring new owners of my building society to discuss what kind of account the one I have now is commuted into when take over day happens in June. Not much writing time on the horizon today, either! Might get a look in on Thursday.

Cheers

MTM

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments What are you doing to the car???

message 1948: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Alicia wrote: "What are you doing to the car???"

That should be: What have you done to the car (this time)?

message 1949: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments A magnificent 26 words. Two whole Haiku poems, however.

message 1950: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Nice going Kath. Two Haikus is two haikus. ;-)

The car has a lever by the driver's seat that you pull to open the boot. It's done with wires which snap, repeatedly. When the wires are snapped, you can't open the boot so you have to get a new one put on, which snaps after about six months. Serious design flaw. I will ask about having a lock and key the way I did on the old one.

Cheers
