That's what you need: some other thing distracting you from what you want to write; then it suddenly gets your attention.

message 1805: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) I've slowed right down for some reason. 250 words yesterday.
Now to deal with a fresh page of notes from my editor.

message 1806: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wrote the talk yesterday. 1.2k. It's not brilliant but it'll do. Phew.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments When I do a talk I measure it in number of slides :)

I have once had to talk to a powerpoint presentation, (somebody else produced it)
I've never actually produced my own, if I give a talk I just do it from notes with no slides or anything

Tim | 8539 comments Gonna head to the cafe with the new laptop this arvo (assuming I don't get snowed in) . . .

message 1810: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Wrote some more tripwires today, 1.5k and a blog post (http://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/03/17/wit...). It's fucking cold here but no snow. Knew I should have left that toboggan at Mum and Dad's!

Tim, hope you manage to get some done. My talk will not involve powerpoint slides. I just stand up and do it. Sometimes there are props but only if it's funny! :-) It'll be the blog post next week.

Cheers

MTM

Tim | 8539 comments 430 words. Not a bad start, considering I'd pretty much forgotten what I was writing.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments 1.2k on Friday and a blog post! https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2018/03/24/re... If anyone's interested.

Sorry to hear that Tim.

Pam, I am away at Easter ... Skiing but without the toboggan. :-) without skis too. The knees haven't recovered from last time. :-) will be walking in the mountains and writing in the chalet.

Cheers

message 1817: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Yay, Go Will. Hoping to get a couple of shorts plotted so I can write them by numbers on holiday ... hoping. I had a great idea for one yesterday, didn't have time to write it down ... yes, I've forgotten it.

Doh!

message 1818: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I've got to head back to the Studio and record an extra story, it seems. I'm trying to get the piece into a mid sized press here, and they won't look at it with three of my own pieces in the collection.

Now I need to work out how to offer an audio file for download from my website. Anyone know?

Tim | 8539 comments Visited the new Starbucks in town. I'm not normally a big fan of Starbucks, and this is a typical example of the brand. But it had free wifi, and I achieved +411 words, so that's a bonus!

message 1820: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Bummer to hear that Will. Never mind I'm sure the extra will come in handy.

Tim, nice going.

Have just arrived at the ski resort. It's amazing, stacks of snow, miles more than last year. It's like being in a giant pavelova. Very sad that I can't ski this year but hey, there's plenty to do ... and writing ... oh yeh.

Cheers

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Hope you have a great break, Mary

I'm busy writing up the text of the legends stories to release as an accompanying paperback if I can't place the project.

So that was about 5K yestrday

After such an effort, you need your recovery time. And some pampering. I hope you're getting the pampering, even if you have to arrange it yourself.

Hope you had fun M.T. - they said afterwards they got it wrong. No snow. Instead it hammered with rain the whole Easter bank holiday!

Meanwhile, still struggling on with the edit ....

message 1829: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Today I had to undo the results of my own stupidity.
I had produced a blog tour to promote the latest Tallis Steelyard story collection. Because it was 'Pictures from an exhibition' I found 11 pictures which fitted the theme.
Then I realised that I'd written 17,500 words for the blog tour. So it struck me that it would be silly not to publish the chuffing blog tour in its own right.
Then it was pointed out to me that one of the pictures I'd used was still in copyright.
Now that's probably OK on the blog tour, it's not making me any money, but if I'm putting it in a book it really has to be out of copyright.
So today I've had to write a totally new story for a totally new picture, which is 2,500 words bringing the full thing up to 18,500!

Which should teach me to check carefully next time and make sure paintings are as old as I think they are!

message 1830: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments I'm surprised that you used a picture that wasn't old enough to be out of copyright! I would have thought it wouldn't fit the stories. Is there a link to the image?

message 1831: by M.T. (last edited Apr 07, 2018 01:58PM) (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Well done Jim and at least you spotted it. No harm done.
Pam, hang in there and keep going.
Tim, woot nice going.
Did a fair few words this week ... 7k? Something like that. Now the skiing is done so it will stop for the week ... and the week after because I have to do the chuffing parish mag. But I'm in the middle of a lot of stuff so it should be easy enough to carry on.

Cheers

message 1834: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'm editing just now, so adding/subtracting and my total each day is around zero! However, a new idea has dropped in from above, and I'm hoping to make a start on a bit of first drafting - the best bit!

message 1835: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I pressed on with the edits, then wrote a whole 415 brand new ones on the new story!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Great stuff Kath. I wrote most of a blog post in the car yesterday but haven't the internet access to post it - or the time to type it up now the gents are no longer whizzing of to ski.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) After a bit of dithering I'm back up to speed with my video game scripting project. 1000 words over the weekend (which might not sound like much, but it includes coding)

message 1840: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I had a weekend devoted to a book fair at Geekedfest Swansea.

Disappointing sales and footfall, but at least i broke even.

message 1841: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments breaking even is a genuine achievement!

message 1842: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The yo-yo effect on the book I'm editing and a mere 230 on the new one, because, frankly, after editing I'm mentally in candy-floss mode. Need another cuppa and a bit of a read.
I might start with the new one tomorrow and edit later.

message 1843: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments What Jim said, Will. Kath, I find editing really hard now that I have more clue how it's done. Enjoy the read and relax! No words now, not even a blog post. We do, at least, have internet here though.

Cheers

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Any time I put off editing (such as in waiting to do final editing on a scene until the chapter is finished), I regret it. Taking up a task again after I've moved on is too hard for me. When I go back now, it is only to read for pleasure.

message 1845: by Kath (new)
