Saved me a job. I've been trying to do a blog post about marketing but it's really hard because there's so much to say!

( That should have said "go on",)"
being a poet he's far more concise than a novelist, indeed compared to that Jim Webster chap his writings are almost curt ;-)
Tallis provides readers with elegant little stories, even his longest rarely exceed three thousand words.

Finished a nice little scene of 730 words and polished it up to reasonable standards; I have the Mac robot voice read it to me. Catches all kinds of weird things, as well as flow problems.

Yay go Kath and Alicia. 433 today but I cannot believe I have nearly come to the end of something. ;-)

Another finished scene, 844 words - if I get things set up right, it only takes a day or two to write a scene. My new method is working. I'm almost afraid.

Brilliant news, Alicia!
Thank you, Elizabeth. All those months with my brain in zombieland from drugs - this feels much better.
Thank you, Elizabeth. All those months with my brain in zombieland from drugs - this feels much better. It's not as if I was doing these in my subconscious, as they are, within their marks, completely new to me (I know WHERE a scene needs to go, but not HOW, until I write it).
I don't want to stop writing and do things such as paperwork, as there's still not much energy, and I LIKE writing.

 So chuffed Alicia.
So chuffed Alicia.I did about 1,000 words today and inched over the 11k mark on the short. We're just in the last 1000 or so now.
Good job, MT. It feels so good, doesn't it?
Good job, MT. It feels so good, doesn't it?I didn't write any text today, but set up a complicated scene to write this evening or tomorrow - once it's in that state, it's remarkably easier to write than if I don't organize it first, so that's my new system. It's as if my mind can start to think how once it has all the whats in place. Art gets added on top of that - and we're done!

It certainly does. What you are doing, working out more of what's happening in each scene before you write it up, is what I am trying to learn to do.
And Kath, a Drabble is a Drabble! :-)

But I'm an extreme plotter. I don't know if my system would work for other people who aren't. Steel scaffolding - and then I get the fun of writing, knowing everything will connect.

There'll be a hiatus for a a week or so but I hope to pick it up and run with it after my few days' break.

Blimey Kath! You're on a roll!
Blimey Kath! You're on a roll! Just failed to finish the short in a month, but considering the kind of month it's been I'm well chuffed that it's nearly done.
1115. I am on a roll, aren't I? It'll stop now, for a while, but I hope I can get back on the wagon next week.

Marvelous - you are on a roll, and I must do my best to imitate you.
Marvelous - you are on a roll, and I must do my best to imitate you.The mind would not focus yesterday, until I realized I'm writing my third character pov, and she's the villain, and I have to work a little harder to get into her pov. Which occurs when I remember she's part of me, too, even if those are the parts I mostly suppress.
Keep up the good example, and hope you get back to writing quickly after your distraction.
My next sci fi romp is coming to its close, with an episode of Interstellar Jehova's Witnesses.

Today I wrote 700 words or so. But the two most important ones were 'the end'. One 13k short complete ... in a month. I'm happy. But I wish the rest could be that easy.

Especially as it hasn't been a particularly good month for you writing
Bless you you lovely folks. Thanks. I'm now wondering if I should start doing a series of shorts focussing on things that happened to The Pan of Hamgee in the five years leading up to Few Are Chosen. I think the actual moment of blacklisting would be a bit dark but there is a lot of potential for events as a minion working for Big Merv. And he joins Big Merv at least a year before the books start because he's been a regular for over a year at The Parrot but meets Ada for the first time on the day Big Merv recruits him. Plenty of time for say, five 13k shorts. Which would give us a 65k 'box set'. It's an idea.

Toodles! ;-)
I reckon the shorts would be a great idea for you, Mary.
I reckon the shorts would be a great idea for you, Mary.I've just typed The End on this sci fi story. Draft one done.

I got back from my hols with a few snaps on my Kindle Fire and a friend looked at one and said "Book cover!" Well, blow me, it could be. So I got thinking. Last night I did a bit of research and today I've written 2861 words of a new short story. Genre, horror.

Thanks, Alicia. There's almost an adrenaline rush with a new story, perhaps more so with a short, as the end is in sight right from the beginning!

Only if you write fast! Glad it's that for you. Hope you get many more.
Only if you write fast! Glad it's that for you. Hope you get many more.I've had that happen once - when writing a short SF story that's on my site under Free Fiction called The House of The Vord. It twisted and squirmed as I pinned it down, but came out in one piece one day. I don't dare touch it.
Not sure I can do that in general - but there's probably no point in writing a short until you can see where it should end.
It's a form that will get more practice if I ever get the time - I think I've written fewer than ten in my lifetime.
Another 2280 today. It's flying. Shame it's only going to be a relatively short flight but we're at 5141 at the moment.

     Great job Kath.
Great job Kath. Nothing for a while but there's a definite hint of something on the new series ... and I will have a look at the Long short as well. Just trying to think of cover ideas now. Also slightly worried that my editor has gone a.w.o.l. She's not replied to either of the emails I sent her last week. I hope she hasn't decided to stand down.
Cheers
