Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I tried Bernard Cornwell once before and could not get into it. Not this one, I don't think, but another of his series. It was very dry.

I am glad the two of you liked it. I know Travis did too. I think I have enough series books on my TBR list for the rest of my lifetime, so I'll stay on the fence with this one, for now.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I do want to continue this series. I'm somewhat fascinated with this time period. It's distant but also still a time and place I can connect to.

I actually listened to this as an audio book. Getting more into audiobooks this year. I like when I have books going in various formats - one audio, one ebook, one paper.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 16/26. Question #29. Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. I read a book with "sunflower" in the title. Actually, Sunflower is the full title. Pretty decent book. Pleasantly surprised.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 17/26. Question #10. I'm right-handed so I read a book with "right" in the title. Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time. Very interesting.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 18/26. Question #50. Mandarin is a language I'd like to learn. It's so different than English and other related languages I've been exposed to more, like spanish, french, and german. My nephews are all learning mandarin as well as english. Their mother, who has dual American-Chinese citizenship, wants them to be bilingual at a minimum. China in Ten Words was straight-forward but compelling in both what is said and what is not said.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 19/26. Question #42. I said I'd rather explore space than under water (though i love swimming and love water). So for this task, I read a book set in deep space: Six Wakes. Loved it!! It was a real page-turner and so much fun. Posed some interesting AI questions and what it means to be alive while cracking me up with the funny plot twists and turns.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 20/26. Question # 2. Swimming is my favorite sport. The Big Swim: Coming Ashore in a World Adrift The Big Swim Coming Ashore in a World Adrift by Carrie Saxifrage features a real-life, contemporary woman who loves to swim, and the book cover shows a swimmer doing a long-distance, ocean swim (the author presumably). Also, swimming is a central theme in several chapters. This is a book with a lot of heart. Loved it!!!

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 21/26. Question #49. Reading is my most beloved hobby, and so I read a book in which reading and books are central to the plot: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. Despite some weaknesses, I really liked this book.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 22/26. Question # 3. The color of my eyes is hazel, and so I read a book with "hazel" in the title. Miss Hazel and the Rosa Parks League. Quite good in my opinion.

It does sound interesting. I've added it to my wishlist.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 23/26. Question #15. My shoe size is 8, so I picked 8 books from my tbr list. The number 4 was picked by online randomizer. A Gentleman in Moscow is the book that corresponded to that number on my list.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 24/26. Question #24. Quebec is a place I'd like to visit. A Rule Against Murder, set in Quebec, is the book I read for this task.

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Part 3, 25/26. Question 41. I believe that education is key to making the world a better, more peaceful, and more equitable place. So I went with education as an issue I am passionate about, and read I Am Malala: The Story of the Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban to complete this task.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Great TJ!

I've still got 8, but I'm trying to finish the Seasonal Reading Challenge this Fall 2017 Season - keep your fingers crossed for me. It's only taken me 5 years to finish 1 challenge.

message 118: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Great, TJ, from me too!
I've got 7 to go and 2 are about half done.
The Easter Island book is fascinating and I am surprised to be enjoying I, Claudius.

message 119: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments My fingers are crossed for you, Anne. You're perseverance is impressive!! This will be the first year-long challenge that I expect to fully complete in 5 years of trying. You read so many more books than I. Hats off to you.

message 120: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Thanks Cherie : ) Easter Island book sounds like one I'd love. I expect I'd enjoy I, Claudius if I read it at the right time. Good luck with finishing this year-long challenge. Happy reading!!

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Finally!

Part 3, 26/26. Question 6. Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I reread this all-time favorite, but read along with Martin Gardner's annotated version. It was slow going because the notes, while interesting, tended to suck the life out of the story. Therefore, I had to read it in very small doses. I'm glad to have read it. It's one I've long been wanting to read, and this challenge got me to do it, so that's grand.

Yes, I'm one of those people that tends to come right down to the wire when facing a deadline. Oddly enough, I don't run late for catching planes or doctor appointments. Go figure!

message 132: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19221 comments I'm always late and last minute to everything, except planes. I turn up to the airport about 2 hours too early. No idea why I cannot apply a little bit of that to the rest of my life lol

There is nothing like a deadline to keep one motivated!
