Homicide Lieutenant Jacqueline (Jack) Daniels is in some serious trouble. Her boyfriend wants to get married. Her partner wants to transfer to another department. I'm halfway through the book. It isn't as gruesome as the last one although the dead bodies are piling up.

I just started this. Looking forward to reading it and glad its not as gruesome as the last book.

Being more gruesome than the last one is a pretty high bar...

I am at the end of chapter 38. (view spoiler)[ I do not care for Latham either. He is just so dull. At least he isnt so much in the picture since he is in the hospital.

I am disappointed in Herb also for leaving the homicide, and then to call the kettle black, he has the nerve to call Harry a coward. At least he is using his vehicle as the runaway vehicle to get them away quickly when the bomb goes off.

Great that Jack got the fingerprint, hopefully.

Harry is so stupid but makes me laugh. Always good to get a giggle.
I couldnt believe it when Jack said I cant believe you ran him over and Harry said will he just wouldnt get out of the way. Then Jack says yes but he is handicapped and Harry said will it wont hurt him then, he cant walk anyways.

It is crazy, botulism, what a wacked out psychopath!

I agree with you about Harry. He is so obnoxious but hilarious as well. Much needed comic relief in these books.

Actually, Burkbinder annoyed the hell out of me. I really wanted Jack to shoot him and put me out of my misery, lol!

Oh, God, I DO hope so. I love this series. Jack is such a break from all those damaged detectives out there.

I am at 52% now.
This is good. The whole food contamination thing is very scary.
Mr. Friskers is a continued crack up and so was (view spoiler)[the whole cockroach thing. I have a beetle phobia so I was getting the sweats just reading that (hide spoiler)]
Latham - (view spoiler)[ he bores me too. I think he should just die in his sleep and put him and all of us out of misery.
I mean they killed off Roxy and she was just a "girl who wants to have fun."
I think I like the new guy, what's his name, Rick. He seems better for Jack. (hide spoiler)]

Roxy - (view spoiler)[I really don't get the point of her character. She seemed to be there to up an already high body count and so that Jack could threaten her a bit and then feel guilty when she was killed. (hide spoiler)]

Rick - (view spoiler)[ I found him rather sleezy. He was hitting on Jack even after she told him about Latham. Of course, Jack wasn't exactly resisting much either...

Sometimes I think that Konrath projects male views about sex onto Jack who is constantly checking out other men. I don't think that a woman with Jack's personality and being in a committed relationship would be doing that so much. (hide spoiler)]

I had read Dirty Martini before I knew it was in a series just on a limb. I'm currently reading Whisky Sour by J.A. Konrath.

Lauren - I agree with you about Rick. Also, I just think the author is just no good at writing about relationships. I just wish he wouldn't keep on trying to write about them. I get more out of the relationship between Jack and her partner.
