With Melanie both girls are discovering their sexuality and I would say do love each other, with Katy it is a more casual affair both know exactly what they are doing and that it is most likely not to last.

The relationship with Melanie was the first and did not last. Melanie was not strong enough to last and may have only been experimenting at the stage she was at where Jeanette knew she was not at all interested in men.

With Katy, the relationship was more equal and caring.

Pip | 1822 comments Jeannette was besotted, as one is, with Melanie, her first love. It was not intentionally a sexual relationship to begin with. The girls were very close because they spent much time together and talked to each other a lot before a sexual element developed. Then, after the exorcism and Melanie's departure, Jeannette had by now realised that she was lesbian and her relationship with Katy was one where both the girls knew what they were doing. They had a common interest in their religion, but they also were aware of the consequences of being discovered.
