Paige Mcleod | 2 comments I think a person with the right human mid set is capable of any kind of change. But someone with a wrong mind set has trouble with change or cannot bring themselves to change.

Jade Missler | 2 comments I think that change is possibly if the person really wants to change. If the person doesn't really want to change won't be able to truly change.

Genesis Maney | 2 comments I think everyone can change when they realize that he is ruining his own life he hasn't figured out what his hearts capable of!

Jayne Waterhouse | 2 comments I think everyone has the ability to change if its what they want but sometimes changes happen whether you want it to or not. Change can be scary but everyone will have to experience it one way or another.

Shawna | 2 comments Some people are hard to change but it is not impossible sometimes it's hard finding ways to help change, sometimes not. The mind is a very complicated thing and should not be underestimated in it's tactics and ways towards change.

Mn008 | 2 comments I think that everyone is capable of changing if they are truly committed. Although you cannot expect change without taking action. Everyone can change their mind set to commit to change but its simply the decision whether they want to or not.

Kennedy | 3 comments I do not think people are capable of change, but hiding the things that they cannot change. Hiding the little things that they've done, acting as if they are perfect and for a fact that are not, they are far from it.

I do Believe people are capable of change with time. However I believe that In the novel change for Cole was hard do to the presence of violence and crime. Think about Cole's family history. He lives with only his Father who is abusive and his alcoholic Mother who neglects him. This violent history makes him a violent person. An example of that would be when he beats up Peter. Now after his banishment Cole goes to the island and gets mauled by the Spirit Bear. For this reason Cole starts to change. Sometimes a person need a “slap in the face” so to speak in order to change. This mauling was the “slap in the face” for Cole. It taught him to care for others like the baby birds and later in the story Peter. He from their works toward being selfless throughout the book. This is why I think that people can change with time.

I do believe people are capable of change. However in the book the change for Cole was tough with his history of violence, and crimes. To start think about his family, Cole had an abusive father, and neglective mother. His father beat him a lot. His Mother also was also neglective. His mother was never in his defense except for once in the book where Cole mentions this. Cole also had no friends growing up, and all he really knew was to live a good life be above others with violence. He proved this by always showing who was boss. Nobody messed with Cole without facing “his” view of punishments. These views are described in many ways. Beating Peter Driscal at the start of the book. He had serious anger issues, but Garvey a companion in a sort of his brings him to the Justice Circle. They declare he went to an island, and the reason they decided this was because once others had a similar situation, but people were able to control anger there. Of course he burns down the shed trying to escape, but later throughout his first trip on the island he learns the value of life being found after mauled by a bear, with various injuries. After healing he convinces the Justice Circle to trust him, and he proves that he can change. He controls his anger with various methods, and by the end of the book. He tries to help Peter, and apologizes, while they have a true talk, if you read the book it is clear the answer to this question is yes people can change, but not only in the book. People don’t have as dramatic experiences, but therapists help with various problems people in real life have. That is one example to prove that people can change, and Cole does inside Touching Spirit Bear.
