ABANDONED. Childrens - St Nicholas Little girl switches her boots with her father's boots because she is worried the doll / dollhouse she asked for won't fit in her own boots.

Picture book or short story. Illustrations European or turn of the century clothing/setting. When girl wakes up she discovers that St Nicholas has left a pipe and tobacco in her father's boots and the doll/dollhouse is with her boots in her parents room. All I can remember and I need to find it!

I honestly am not sure when I read it. Perhaps within the last 30 years? I was in the US. I do not remember the cover. It may have been in a collection of stories even.
