Many years ago I found a cat mystery reading challenge on one of the blogs. Being both a cat and mystery lover, it was the *purrfect* reading challenge for me but then it suddenly disappeared and I never saw one again. So, I decided to create my own. It's very simple, this challenge is all about reading mysteries that have cats as the main characters. Here are a few examples...

Joe Grey Mysteries by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
Midnight Louie Mysteries by Carole Nelson Douglas
A Cats In Trouble Mysteries by Leann Sweeney
A Klepto Cat Mysteries by Patricia Fry
Black Cat Bookshop Mysteries by Ali Brandon
Cat Who Mysteries by Lilian Jackson Braun
Cat in the Stacks Mysteries by Miranda James
Bookmobile Cat Mysteries by Laurie Cass
Theda Krakow Mysteries by Clea Simon
Black Cat Mysteries by Elaine Faber

This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens more. You can find a list here, but you aren't limited to just these choices. If you find others, that's great.

Here are the levels you can choose from:

Purring - Read 1-10 cat mysteries
Kneading - Read 11-20 cat mysteries
Meowing - Read 21-30 cat mysteries
Catnip - Go crazy and read at least 31 and go as high as you'd like - the sky is the limit!

The challenge will begin on January 1, 2017 and end on December 31, 2017.

The rules are really simple.

1. Any book read for this challenge has to be a mystery and have a cat that plays a major role in the book.

2. You may make a list of books at the beginning of the challenge or you can just list them as you find them.

3. Book titles may be swapped out at anytime for those who make a list in advance.

4. Crossovers with other challenges are permitted and encouraged.

5. Books can be in any format of your choice (print, audio, ebooks)

6. To sign up, choose one of the levels from the above list and create a folder for yourself in this folder. Or you can sign up on my blog at http://socratesbookreviews.blogspot.c...

Enjoy and have fun!

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments I signed up on the form at Socrates Book Reviews and hope to read 10 books in '17. I also plan to add #5 to Xander de Hunter's Sea Purrtector Files.
If anyone in this group is interested in including Xander's cozy, family-friendly mysteries on their list, I would be happy to give you Smashword's coupon codes so you can get them for 99 cents each vs. 2.99. Contact me a jeannefoguth.author@gmail.com - mention that you are part of this list and which book/s you want coupons for.
If you are not familiar with Xander, you can meet him here: https://foguth.wordpress.com/2016/04/...
Happy reading!

by Virginia Ripple. Toby is sort of a Harry Potter of cats.
1 down, 9 to go.

If you love cats & like Harry Potter, I think you'll enjoy it.

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments Just finished A Hiss-tory of Magic by Harper Lin. While this is from the perspective of a human witch, 3 cats are very involved in the story.
It was a delightful cozy mystery with a magical element.

2 down and 8 to go.

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments Just finished CATastrophe by Chloe Kendrick. A P.I. is hired to investigate why a cat is stalking his client.

3 down 7 to go.

I've begun the rough draft of Xander and Mischief's 6th book. If anyone is interested in reading/reviewing any of this series (from the perspective of Xander, Catamondo's answer to 007), I am happy to gift you a copy - just ask.

message 14: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 55 comments I just finished CAT IN A DIAMOND DAZZLE by Carole Nelson Douglas. I had difficulty reading this because there was a lot of unnecessary sentences. Midnight Louie is always great.

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments Pause For The Cat (A Lucky Pierre Mystery) by J.D. Crayne Honeysuckle House Bed and Breakfast is the location of this cozy who-done-it murder mystery. However, despite it's title, PAUSE FOR THE CAT [A Lucky Pierre Mystery) Pierre, the cat, doesn't have a big role.

4 down 6 to go

message 17: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 55 comments the url is at the top of the blog that shows the definds another blog. Go to the top of the page and copy the line entirely. Paste it where you need it and hit send. This not a good explanation as I don't understand it very will.

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments Just finished Ghostly Paws (Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery, #1) by Leighann Dobbs . Willa has inherited her Grandmother's home, bookstore & cat, Pandora... This cozy who-done-it has a bit of witchcraft and is a fun read. My favorite portion was from Pandora's perspective. I will read more of this series.

5 down 5 to go

message 20: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 55 comments I read all of this series and enjoyed each book.

I have begun book #2 and am pleased to see more of Pandora's view point.

message 22: by Sharon (new)

Sharon | 189 comments I just read "Sour Puss" by Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie: The author and her cat!

A good story line however, I have no interest in grapes so that parent of the story was boring to me. Not enough of the main cats and dog talking & mentioned in this book so not one of my favourite in this series.

This is my 1st book towards my goal!

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments Just finished reading The Cat Who Could Read Backwards (Cat Who..., #1) by Lilian Jackson Braun by Lilian Jackson Braun. Kao K'o-Kong a.k.a. Koko was a great character, so thanks for listing this series, Yvonne. The book is from the POV of Jim Qwilleran, a graying reporter. While I would give Koko's character 5 stars, overall, I would only give the book itself 4 stars because I didn't feel that the who-done-it portion was completely resolved for all 3 murders.

6 down, 4 to go

message 24: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments I just finished A Spirited Tail (Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery, #2) by Leighann Dobbs by Leighann Dobbs, which is book #2 of this series (I am really enjoying it.) Willa Chance inherited her Grandmother's home, bookstore & cat, Pandora... This cozy who-done-it has a bit of witchcraft and is a fun read. My favorite portion was from Pandora's perspective. I will continue reading this series.
7 down 3 to go (very convenient, since there are 3 more in this series)

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments I just finished Leighann Dobb's A Mew To A Kill (Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery, #3) by Leighann Dobbs Willa Chance inherited her Grandmother's home, bookstore & cat, Pandora... This cozy who-done-it has a bit of witchcraft and is a fun read. My favorite portion was from Pandora's perspective. I will continue reading this series.
8 down 2 to go (very convenient, since there are 2 more in this series)

Karine Gordineer (karinegordineer) | 20 comments I'll go with purrring!

message 27: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Foguth (jeannefoguth) | 25 comments I just finished Paws and Effect (Mystic Notch Cozy Mystery, #4) by Leighann Dobbs by Leighanne Dobbs. When "something shiny and silver that lay half-buried in the dirt", Willa and her cat, Pandora, are propelled into a new Mystic Notch mystery. The secret contents of the box have the power to bring disaster to the town. Hester's ghost and that of her cat make an appearance to warn the humans and enlist their help to ensure the box doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Alas, Pandora, who is the main point of view character of this book, is the only one paying attention.

If you love cats and cozy mysteries, I think you'll like this book.

9 down & only 1 to go!!!
