Hi to everyone,
I read everything except Sci-Fi. So looking forward to some titles from this group that I have (a) read before and forgotten OR (b) never heard of before.
I'd like to suggest for the group "84 Charing Cross Road" by Helen Hanff because I've read it a dozen times and loved it every time.

Sara the Librarian (museoffire) Hi gang! Just realized I never introduced myself. My name is Sara and I'm a reference librarian on Eastern Long Island, NY. I've got two fabulously evil little boys and a truly brilliant, astoundingly handsome, artist husband who, for reasons unknown, puts up with all my nonsense.

I'm a former board treader with a serious love of the bard and really plays in general. Still try to see as much theater as I possibly can. I read everything I can get my hands on and my genre's of choice sort of wax and wane depending on my mood.

I love to write, I'm a pretty deft hand in the kitchen, I like a clever turn of phrase, I do not suffer fools gladly and I kind of love writing long, insanely opinionated rants about books.

So that's me!

Kasia (kasiareads) | 2 comments Hi everyone! My name is kasia (ka-sha) and I'm a teenaged girl who loves to read! Kinda rare kind in my age group I know... most kids hate reading so I guess I'm one of a kind! I'm open to fiction books primarily, dystopian, mysteries, contemporaries and Harry Potter are my thing! I really love reading, just like everyone else here pretty much. Have a nice day!

I buy more books for my 14-year-old niece than for myself, because I want to encourage her love of reading.

And I plan on starting the Harry Potter series, in the next month or so.

Carrie Terrell | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm Carrie. My home state is Utah, but I've been in Arizona for almost four years! Talk about different climates! I read just about everything, though sometimes late to write the reviews, I always do them. I am a registered nurse, have my own legal nurse consulting business and in my spare time I like to play games - board, computer, casinos. I also make handmade cards and scrapbook. Currently I am reading a really hilarious read for medical people - Haematemesis: How One Man Overcame a Fear of Things Medical and Learned to Navigate His Way Around Hospital by Henry Sheppard. Since this world is the "norm" for me, this book makes me laugh out loud at how the rest of the world may perceive medicine.

Rachel Anne (racheldespins) Hi everyone, I'm Rachel. I live in Delaware. The library system here is A+ and I go at least a couple of times a month. Some of the library checkout people know me on sight lol. Currently, I'm reading Rules of Murder by Julianna Deering, which is a historical mystery set in the 1930s in England.

Hi, Rachel.

When I was younger and went frequently to the library, they all knew me. Though that was probably less because of my presence and more because of my name.

Then I'll suggest The Alienist, by Caleb Carr.

Carr is an historian and author and this book is set in Victorian New York City. The protagonists are a police officer and a Holmesian detective who is an early psychiatrist/psychologist (before those terms were used) and uses his insights into human behaviour to investigate crimes.

It's basically Sherlock Holmes set in New York, in the same time period.

It's a mystery/thriller. And quite good.

Emma (M) Hi everyone,

Thanks for the invitation to this group. It's come at the right time for me as I have just got back into reading from a sixth month hiatus after having a baby.

My name is Emma and I live in Australia. I will pretty much read any genre. After reading a lot of trashy novels (and some really good ones) I'm now in the mood to get into books with a bit more substance. I'm currently reading All the Light We Cannot See and listening to The Signature of All Things, both of which I'm thoroughly enjoying.

I look forward to getting to know you all over heart discussions of good books.

Richard Buro (rwburo1outlookcom) | 8 comments Howdy, James. My name is Richard. Happily married for 40+ years to the love of my life. We have one daughter, one cat, and one rescued dog. Until I became a medical mess, I was involved in the public schools for 35 years in my home town. I am freelance writing and editing, and was one of November 2016's National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) winners. Tomorrow, I am getting earnest about editing and revising my work for about the next three months. I joined this group at the suggestion of a friend I have here in GR, in the Sci-Fi Fan Book Club.. Aviation and space exploration are my avocational interests in addition to reafding, but rarely listening, to books, since I am best suited to visual forms of information gathering. A long time Sci-Fi lover, I also like historical fiction, hard history and political science, good biography, and hard science; all four of which need to show their upbringing with solid ebdeork dealing with the research behind the book, as well as a compendium of works used in support of their writing efforts. I am interested in this group as it provided me with a chance to read something other than SciFi / Fan. I am actually beginning to like Jane Austen!

James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) Richard wrote: "but rarely listening, to books, since I am best suited to visual forms of information gathering"

Hey.

I, also, rarely listen to books. I have worked through a dozen or so, but I have a different reason. I like listening to autobiographies, if they're read by the author. And I found both of Rob Lowe's autobiographies entertaining, as read by Rob Lowe.

Also, Stephen Fry is (in my opinion) best experienced straight from the horse's mouth... as it were. And Steve Martin's "Pure Drivel" ends up being the same as a stage show. Also Stephen King's "On Writing", as read by King.

Beyond that, I have found myself occasionally enjoying science-related books playing while I do house work. In that way, I worked through
13 Things That Don't Make Sense: The Most Baffling Scientific Mysteries of Our Time
and
You Are Not So Smart: Why You Have Too Many Friends on Facebook, Why Your Memory Is Mostly Fiction, and 46 Other Ways You're Deluding Yourself.

But when it comes to fiction, I entirely agree with you: print is the way to go. But my reason isn't a difficulty with the audio, so much as a preference.

When you read, you are interpreting the printed words that the author presented. For example, no matter how detailed they get, they can never make you hear a voice the way they envisioned it, which is for the best. A creepy voice is always creepy, when you hear it in your own head. An odd cadence is always odd, etc, etc.. But when someone else reads it, they do that same interpretation, then you add your own level of interpretations on top of that. Now you are twice removed from the author's original efforts!

Even when the author reads their works, they are creating a second-order experience. (if the work is written with the intention that it be heard, as opposed to read off the page, then that's different, of course)

So, yeah, I've listened to numerous radio plays and such, but I found audiobooks of fiction too annoying, to continue with. Especially when the "creepy" or "tough" voices made me giggle, because of the reader's delivery.

Kristina (kristina3880) Thank you for the invitation!

Hello!! My name is Kristina and I am from Ohio. I am a Geriatric and Rehabilitation Social Worker. I have two wonderful children and two amazing dogs.

I can not say I have a favorite genre. If the book sounds good, I will try it. If a book has a lot of substance and my mind needs to process what I just read, I will read what I call Book Candy. I have no shame in that. It just gets me ready for another great book.

I am looking forward to jumping into the discussions for this month. I have read both.

So, happy reading and HAPPY SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!!!

Grady Brown | 1 comments I am a science fiction author who is diagnosed with high functioning autism. I am a connoisseur of the science fiction, fantasy, and superhero genres. In addition, I am an autism ambassador, hoping to demonstrate the potential benefits one can gain from being autistic.

As a writer, I utilize my autism to visualize the story taking place inside of my head like a movie. Also, I have a very strong memory, allowing me to store information about my characters and stories in my brain as though it were a computer hard-drive. My superhero series, The Young Guardians, is based on a childhood fantasy I shared with my best friends of becoming superheroes.

I've just finished reading 'Twenty Love Poems and A Songs of Despair' by Pablo Neruda and I loved that book!
I've recorded an audiobook without noise filters in natural circumstances so as to be felt as forthcoming from a broken heart. Just for retrospection.
Here's the Google Drive Link
Feedbacks are most welcome!

Good Day,
