James Joyce (james_patrick_joyce) Hey!

I'm James and yes, my name really is James Joyce. Every teacher, writer, or librarian I met growing up wanted to be the first to tell me that I had the name of a famous author.

And yes, I've written stories since before I can remember (I have a grade 2 report card commenting on how it's great I write so many stories, but could I write more that don't have monsters in them?), but I'm not a published author. Yet.

I read science fiction/fantasy, mystery, thrillers that have a supernatural or science fiction angle (like Relic or half of Michael Crichton's books), literary, short... okay, so I guess I'll read almost anything, if it strikes my fancy. Unfortunately, lots (in any genre) don't... and quite a few shouldn't have.

This is the first group that I've joined from the foundation.

If you want to amuse yourself (maybe), I have a handful of pics where I've photoshopped myself into movies, on my personal page.

My Fake Movie (and tv) Scenes

I didn't even mention what I read (though my shelves give a good idea, I guess). Had to go back and edit.

Christina (missfabularian) | 5 comments Hello all. My name is Christina, and have no genre preference, I just ask that a book, at least, be well written. I'm a librarian, and though my profession does not require a great deal of reading as many expect, I do read a considerable amount, and look for opportunities to do so personally and professionally. I am currently on a prestigious national book awards committee, and because I'm a masochist I continue to do a great deal of recreational reading.

Still working it all out, Christina, but it will look something like this; I'll send a message out for members to nominate books for the book of the month read and the two-week read. That process will go for a set time, say a few days. Then, members will vote on the nominated books, and the books with the most votes will win our proud eyes and minds.

Martha (marthas48) Hi, everyone. My name is Martha & I live in central Illinois, but am still a southerner at heart. I read quite a bit although this has been a hard year for our family so my reading hasn't been steady. I love all types of books with the exception of romance. My favorite genres are mystery, historical fiction, classic, history & biography. I'm a wife, mother & grandmother. I retired over 3 years ago, but stay active with a Special Olympics group of athletes and some other volunteer work. I had a hip replaced in September & will have the other one done in January. Excellent reading time.

Elaine | 2 comments Hello Everyone
I live in Syracuse, NY where the long, cold winters provide the perfect time to read a lot! I enjoy reading current fiction, mysteries, the old classics, anything well written. I'm a retired Register Nurse and I fill my days with quilting, knitting and my big family gets lots of handmade gifts. I enjoy listening to audio books while creating. I look forward to being part of this group. I do belong to a traditional book club as well as a book challenge with my nephew (the 100 best books of the 20th Century) and my 4 daughters and I have an online book club with a private blog to keep the discussion going.

message 40: by MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) (last edited Dec 07, 2016 01:54PM) (new)

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Hi ! Thanks for the invite John. My name is MaryAnn and I live in Colorado USA.

I don't like all genres, but I like a lot of them.
Sci-fi/fantasy/horror/romance, I don't read much.

My favorites are cozy, forensic, and police
procedural mysteries, auto-bios/bios/memoirs;
mod literature and classics, (I just began reading)
historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry (esp. Dickinson)
and Catholic bios, spiritualties, and theology.

This coming year, I don't plan to buy many books.
I want to read a lot of my TBR and e-books (2000+ for each)

I am also a writer, published in the local newspaper (local
history and genealogy how-to series). I am hoping to write at
least one novel, a book based on my 4 maternal great, great
grandmothers, who were pioneers to Kansas.

Richard Buro (rwburo1outlookcom) | 8 comments Howdy, y'all! I am Richard Buro, a retired public school professional educator. My wife and I celebrated our 40th Anniversary this past July. Our daughter is also in public education, teaching English. We have rwo rescued pets, Gus, our basset hound, and Millie our tortoise shell cat. I will read just about anything, mostly "hard science" fiction, history, classical literature, biography, and just about anything dealing with aviation.

I review everything I read, and my reviews can be found here.

Thank you for the invitation to join this group.

Hi everyone and thanks to John for this group invite! I'm Stephanie Jane from Devon in England, but currently living in a caravan in southern France.

I love reading great books across most genres, especially books from around the world and small press/indie authors. I blog all my book reviews at Literary Flits (http://litflits.blogspot.co.uk) and write about my travels at Stephanie Jane (http://stephjb.blogspot.co.uk).

I'm looking forward to getting some book suggestions through this group :-)

message 46: by Janelle (new)

Janelle (jebarton) Hey everyone! My name is Janelle. I'm a public librarian from Indiana. (Well, a soon-to-be librarian. One year left of library school!) Besides reading, my biggest hobby is gaming, both video and tabletop. I also write, usually short stories. Right now, just for my own or friends' enjoyment, nothing published. And if given half a chance, I'll talk your ear off about my dog. (Black lab/Great Pyrenees mix, a rescue puppy who refuses to accept that he's grown into an 80 lb dog, and will still try to climb into your lap.)

Because of my job, I try to read a bit of everything. But I'm still not a big fan of Romance, nor have I read a lot of Westerns. I'm a huge fantasy reader, I also love mysteries and thrillers and non-fiction. I champion graphic novels and comics quite often as well. I also make an effort to read books in every age range. So I'm hoping this group will push me to read even more out of my comfort zone, and give me good recommendations!
