What are you drinking along with the characters in your book?

Some of you might know that during the last Toppler some of us started drinking with the characters in our books. I thought it would be fun to see if any of us continue. There was a lot of tea and coffee, and for some of us a lot of alcohol. I know I ended up spending way too much money at the liquor store :)

I'm reading One Foot in the Grave so there are Bloody Marys in my near future. And the main character drinks gin and tonics constantly. So I broke down and bought gin and tonic. In my other book there's a lot of tea, so I have to decide which flavor I want to have. There's also a lot of brandy, and I found out during the Toppler that I'm not a brandy person, so I've been looking at drinks with brandy.

The Brandy Daisy sounds like a good choice. a few dashes of rum, curacao, and simple syrup with lemon and soda to bring everything together.

And who could resist the Corpse Reviver for zombie books :)

I can't believe bookstores and beverage suppliers haven't come up with this marketing angle. Maybe some have, but none near me. Imagine it -
Cozy mystery day with a tea tasting,
Regency/Victorian romances with port, brandy, and tea
Scottish books with scotches,
Vampire books with bloody marys
Classics with classic cocktails

There are so many possibilities, what fun, and I bet there'd be a lot more people at local bookstores.

Well.. I m reading Quarantine which is set in the Judean wilderness, so it's water, water water all the way... We're dying of thirst out here.

Love the idea though. It could catch on.

I am usually a tea drinker with my winter books. However, some local book clubs have an emphasis on other types of beverages during meetings. Maybe too much on occasion.

In the Orenda, they are mostly drinking water, but some Frenchmen called donnes made some kind of brandy that the Indians call "stinking water". I'll pass on that.

In my audio book, Defense for the Devil by Kate Wilhelm they drink coffee and wine. I need to stop at the store and buy another bottle of Sangria to drink with them.

They claimed that the brandy was made from crab apples so it must be some kind of fermented cider.

Yes, I have to pass, Lisa. Cider is not really high on my list of alcoholic drinks. I like root beer better.
