SOLVED. Electro magnetic bomb and aftermath. [s]

adult read several years ago. an electromagnetic bomb was exploded over the U.S. all computerized things were not functional - water, furnaces, refrigerators, cars, grocery store etc. chaos resulted and how life was lived after the event. small communities were formed to protect what they had and to keep others out.
it is sci fi but this could actually happen.
i think it was audio but could be a book.
