L.Y. Levand (lylevand) | 208 comments Okay, this does contain spoilers, so if you don't want to read them (from The Hobbit book and the third movie) I'm putting in a spoiler. (view spoiler)

Please tell me I'm not the only one aggravated by this. o.0

Seriously?? Seriously??

Okay, so this was hard to accept, so I did some googling. I am questioning the truth in this article. The source this article gives leads to an article that does not give any source for the information.

I did find an article that says some fans (obviously not true Tolkien fans) are petitioning to have Thorin (view spoiler) in the movie. But that is the only thing relating to this news that I found.

Just some (optimistic?) food for thought. Perhaps only time will tell.

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) | 208 comments For the sake of my sanity, Rebecca, I hope it's only a rumor. o.0

Craig It true, it should come as no real surprise. Peter Jackson IS the director.

FantasyFan J (ff101spch) | 5 comments I am seriously angry about this. I think PJ has done so much changing to The Hobbit. But this???? This is unbelievable. This'll be like keeping Boromir alive in the first LOTR movie. I seriously hope that this is a lie.

They have to stay with the book. They already changed a lot of the story. It would be a crime against LOTR fans everywhere if they let Thorin Live!!!

Bookwarrior | 17 comments That is a relief that that is not true!

Abbie | 19 comments I was so scared, they cannot just do that! Though, if it turns out to be actual fact we can always start a petition

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) | 208 comments I was really worried there for a bit. They've changed so much already that it wasn't any kind of stretch to believe they'd do it. It fits too much with their track record so far. :P *cough*Tauriel*cough*

FantasyFan J (ff101spch) | 5 comments It's kind of a problem. If anyone else noticed Thorin getting greedy in TH:TDOS? And once he was king in the book, how cruel he was being to Bilbo? What happened? He died of it later. He realized that he was wrong. It'll lose the entire story's message if they keep him alive.

Found this. Thought you might find it interesting.
spoilers if you have not read the book!!!

"Thorin’s death scene has been filmed — Richard Armitage has alluded to the scene on a few occasions, including during this interview with TORn:

GD: With all that you bring to Thorin, people — especially those who don’t know what’s coming — will be devastated in Film 3!

RA: If they haven’t read the book… I know. [with gleeful excitement] Oh it’s so good. I can’t even begin to tell you — it’s so good… The way that’s structured — I know we’re not supposed to talk about it, but it’s… at every level it surpassed my expectation.

Armitage revealed even more in a letter (which TORn has seen) he sent mid-last-year to cancer survivor Samantha (aka Elvenbutterflies) who visited the set of The Hobbit as a special Make-A-Wish experience.

I wanted Thorin to be at peace and full of love when he died, the scene was about asking for Bilbo’s forgiveness, the final line he spoke was “If more people valued home above gold the world would be a merrier place.”

I think Peter Jackson should be given some slack. Personally, I think that The Lord of the Rings films were the best books to films to ever be created. I don't know what happened to him during the filming of The Hobbit to make it almost feel like it was an entirely different person directing, but in any case I have a lot of sympathy and either "pretend The Hobbit was made by someone else" or "ignore the bad things about it, disappointed expectations and just view them as not the best, but still good movies."
