Mariah | 3 comments I consider this YA book dystopian. I read it somewhere around 1980-82 I think. It starts with a young group of orphans with various physical disabilities in a corporate owned facility. Entire society is corporate owned and there are corporate raids where the people and technology are stolen. This company has 3 A.I. that lives in the computer system
When the company implants the children with a device to cure their disabilities, the children inadvertently also gain a collective conscious. During a corporate raid on this company the 3 A.I. escape into the collective conscious of the children.
I thought it was a newberry winner but could not find it on the website

The info in the other, deleted thread is:

YA book pre1985 children with disabilities that get implant that gives them a shared consciousness

this dystopian society is run by corporations. The children have been given directly to a company by their parents for testing of disability cures. There are 3 artificial intelligence that live in the computer system of that same company. After the children get the implants, the A.I. escape a hostile take over attempt by entering the shared conscious of the children.

Mariah, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

message 6: by Mariah (new)

Mariah | 3 comments Yes I am. I have nearly given up as my search skills are limited to actual paper it seems. The book would have been published 40 years ago give or take 5 years. I was maybe 10 when I read it.

Stephen (swynn68) | 87 comments This rang a bell with me, but I think the book I remember is Alexander Jablokov's Nimbus, which I think doesn't quite fit. I'm very fuzzy on details, but I'm certain it's not a YA book. IIRC, it does have the group of orphans who are enhanced, although I don't recall them having disabilities, and is in the form of a mystery, when later in life somebody starts killing members of the group.
