Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I think I will give it a miss. I wasn't the biggest fan of The Rosie Project either. It was okay, but I didn't love it by any means.

I just heard Virginia Hanlon Grohl on the Sirius XM radio station dedicated to 90's rock when I went to pick up lunch. She was the guest DJ or something promoting her book. She was talking about the book and playing songs by the bands/moms she wrote about. I missed the connection, but she was also playing some songs that had to have been inspiration for the bands or her, when I got back in the car some old, very non-rock song was playing. I can't remember what it was now, but it definitely didn't fit in on that station. LOL. Anyway, it made me think of you! :)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've been stuck on my choice for wildflowers as my favourite flower since the challenge began. I can't find a book that has wildflowers on the cover or in the title and that I also would like to read. So I've been broadening my search to specific wildflowers, and one that I love and also the first I think of is a poppy. I have two books with poppy in the title on my wishlist but don't own them. Then I realized that I can also read a book that in some way represents this flower, so to get away from my mostly simple boring connections so far, I think I'll read a WWI book for the task, as poppies are so closely associated with WWI. Off to search for books!

I was thinking at some stage that your wildflowers would be very different to mine, but didn't think to say to you think about the ones that come to your mind. Enjoy!

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
Book link: All Quiet on the Western Front
Question: 29
Explanation of book-question link: I wrote wildflowers as my favourite flowers. One type of wildflower that immediately comes to my mind (and probably one of the only ones I know the name of) and which I really like is poppies. Poppies have become the symbol of WWI, and All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the most famous books set during WWI. Poppies were also mentioned in the book a few times.

I also read the poem 'In Flanders Fields' by John McCrae which is why poppies became such a symbol.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's about time for a book that I can rate higher than 2 stars..

message 186: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes you've had a run of low ratings. Choose something you know you'll love!

message 187: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've considered that, but I worry that I'm in a slight reading slump and that when I pick a book I know I will love, and want to love, I'll even be disappointed by that :/

message 188: by Margo (last edited Jul 31, 2017 02:30AM) (new)

Margo | 11638 comments I liked the sound of that one. You never can tell from the blurb

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Me too! And I read another book by the same author (The Silver Linings Playbook) which I really enjoyed, so I thought chances were good on this one.

message 190: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I get your point Peggy. I seen to have been starting lots of books but not getting very far with them recently. I have loads on my currently reading shelf. It's slightly stressing me out. I think i need to move some of them to my started come back later shelf.

message 191: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11638 comments I loved the movie The Silver Linings Playbook (great acting!) but never read the book. I guess that's the main reason I was interested in this one.

@Sarah - I go through phases like that. I don't let it get to me anymore as that would defeat the purpose of reading for pleasure! If it's not working for me I dump it - my new philosophy in life ;-p

message 192: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Hm, no luck. At least it was quick. I'm going to try your strategy next Sarah.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Argh, two weeks ago I bought the ebook of From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars for € 9,50 from a Dutch online book store. I'm currently reading it and just saw that it's only € 1 on Amazon right now :/

message 196: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Huh.. on the Dutch website there's now also a € 0.99 version. It seems the only difference is one is in colour and the other in black and white. As my ereader is black and white, I don't care.

I'm going to see if i can exchange it.. no idea how that works with ebooks.

message 197: by Peggy (last edited Aug 08, 2017 06:22AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's fast, I'm getting my money back. I chatted online with someone from customer service (I love it when companies have that option) and explained the situation, and she will 'delete' the one I bought and return my money, and I can order the one that's 0.99.

They always have great customer service (tbh, I also spend a LOT of money there one books), but I didn't expect this to work.

message 198: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments That's great that they will make it work so that you are paying a lower price.

message 199: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Excellent. Generally if you've not opened an ebbook, you can return it within 14 days. I did this when i bought a hook for £7 and then it was 99p the next day. Never thought to contact them though if i'd started the book and joticed a dramatic price drop. I'll remember that. So what will you buy with your savings?

message 200: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I didn't see anything about returning ebooks so I thought I'd just ask. I didn't say I already started it, just that I had downloaded it to my ereader already.

As for the savings, I don't know yet! I'll just spend it on the next paper book I want to buy ;-)
