Chiara F. (chiaraf79) I've just started few days ago The Crimson Petal and the White and it seems so fluent that I'll probably finish it in the very first days of January! I hope so!!!!

message 52: by Darlene (new)

Darlene | 35 comments I bought this one on Audible, which fits here:

Swan Song by Robert McCammon

message 53: by Sharon (new)

Sharon The Stand by Stephen King (second version), and I believe It also qualifies.

message 54: by Belinda (new)

Belinda (belindalt) | 99 comments I'm going to read Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow.

message 55: by Matchbook (new)

Matchbook Someone mentioned 11/22/63 a few comments back... I went ahead and started it early this week so that I could finish it right after New Year.... and I'm going to have to do another one because I just finished it. It is absolutely un-put-downable and I really recommend it, although it's heartbreaking. It's just really good.

LOL I started that a few weeks ago and I'm barely 1/5 of the way through, this book is a STRUGGLE for me!! I'm in no danger of finishing in 2016. I AM in danger of never finishing it at all!

I wouldn't start this book until this week in case of this happening. I'm currently about 20% in.

message 58: by Mimosa (new)

Mimosa Hansche | 4 comments If you like fantasy books:

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

I know that all of the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan are 800+ too. The Eye of the World <--- This is the 1st book of the series.

message 59: by Sheri (new)

Sheri Lisker Yes! Thank you, Belinda! I was going to attempt Infinite Jest again (on my TBR) but I was going to read Alexander Hamilton by Chernow for a book club. Sweeeet!!!!

message 60: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 5 comments It dawned on me that the Bible would fit into a lot of these categories: book of letters, written by person of color, different ethnicity, character from country I haven't been to, interesting woman, someone I admire, takes place over character's life span, multiple authors, set in wilderness, set during wartime, immigrant or refugee, eccentric characters, more than 800 pages, mentioned in another book, and difficult topic. But I've already read the Bible! So I guess I'll read multiple books to fulfill the challenge.

message 61: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 73 comments I've been thinking a lot about this one. I've had The Valley of Amazement for years, and its 914 pages on my kindle!

message 62: by Christophe (last edited Jan 02, 2017 12:14PM) (new)

Christophe Bonnet poshpenny wrote: "I looked at this year's 600-page thread to see if anything carried over. There are a few:

The Goldfinch
The Brothers Karamazov
Insomnia

A Suitable Boy"

Indeed, both my 600+ books were actually 800+ pages long:

- Vikram Seth, A Suitable Boy , Phoenix House, 1993, 1474pp;

- Jean-Marie Blas de Roblès, Là où les tigres sont chez eux , Zulma, 2016 (ed. orig 2008), 976pp.

This year I plan to read 2666 by Roberto Bollaño (1376 pages in the French pocket edition). That should do the trick! Too bad I don't read Spanish, though.

message 63: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (wherethebooksgo) | 6 comments Oh so hard to choose. I'm part-way through Dragonfly in Amber, but Barkskins and City on Fire have been on by TBR for so long...

One of my favourite books ever - happy reading!

message 65: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Roberts (tanyaro) | 13 comments I read I Know This Much Is True last year for a book over 600 pages prompt but it is actually 900 pages. I wish I held off to read it this year.

I think I'm going to go with Gone with the Wind for this prompt. My copy of Anna Karenina is only 600+ pages so it doesn't fit.

message 66: by Sara (new)

Sara Tanya wrote: "My copy of Anna Karenina is only 600+ pages so it doesn't fit."

My copy is 817 pages. Its the Penguin Classics version with purple flowers on the front (paperback).

message 67: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Christensen (ashimilie) So I started reading Alexander Hamilton for this prompt, because the book shows over 800 pages. However, Goodreads has it at 731.

Should I pick a different book for this prompt?

message 68: by Lakendra (new)

Lakendra (anime1luv) I think the Paperback copy of The Stand by Stephen King has about 800 pages.

Up to you - but the hard cover edition on goodreads says 818 pages so I'd say it counts!

message 70: by Jim (new)

Jim Townsend | 16 comments Lakendra wrote: "I think the Paperback copy of The Stand by Stephen King has about 800 pages."

Good morning!

The original hardback edition of that book has 823 pages, and the revised 1988 paperback edition has 1,141. You can make like a male ice cream sundae and go nuts!

Jim

That's a great book. I highly recommend!

message 74: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Bloom | 19 comments The regular text (not endnotes, acknowledgements, index etc) of my paperback edition of Team of Rivals is 753 pages. Can/should i still count it?

message 75: by Sharyn (new)

Sharyn | 4 comments I only signed up to the challenge this morning but have already allocated the 4th Outlander book to this challenge. It's been in my kindle Waiting Room for too long. I have also recently downloaded Pillars of the Earth but that would be a reread and I want this challenge to be all new-to-me books.

message 76: by Chani (new)

Chani Kynes | 15 comments I decided to read War and Peace for this category. Is anyone planning on joining me in my insanity?

message 77: by Caity (new)

Caity (adivineeternity) | 164 comments Chani wrote: "I decided to read War and Peace for this category. Is anyone planning on joining me in my insanity?"

This is one of, like, ten that are tempting me. I'm also contemplating Les Miserables, Anna Karenina, and Count of Monte Cristo, in terms of classics. I have a lot of options for it, though, so it'll probably be whatever random brick I get the urge to read.

message 78: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisafriel) | 32 comments Two I am considering are The Luminaries at 848 pages or Shantaram at 936 pages.

message 79: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments I'm thinking of reading The Arabian Nights, but the version my library has is "only" 655 pages. I'm wondering if it's not a complete version.

message 80: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 901 comments I've had a copy of Middlemarch gathering dust on the shelf for a few years so this is probably going to be my year to finally read it. My copy also has a red spine and it's written by someone with a pseudonym so if another long book takes my fancy I can move it to another category

message 81: by Ariel (new)

Ariel | 4 comments Do you think that the The Complete H.P. Lovecraft Collection would count or does it need to be one story that is over 800 pages?

message 82: by poshpenny (new)

poshpenny | 1916 comments It counts

message 83: by Mickey (new)

Mickey (liongoddess) | 29 comments I'm almost through with Maia and brother am I glad it's almost over! It's not as good as I remembered it seeming in my misspent youth. I've been picking it up it between other books and on my breaks at work.

message 84: by Megan (new)

Megan | 10 comments Hi everyone! I guess I could really use suggestions for this one because books this long can never hold my interest! I usually give up and skim around 400-500 pages. My favorite genres are chick lit, suspense, psychological thrillers, but I'm up for anything! Look forward to the suggestions :)

If you're interested in Sci-Fi for this prompt, Seveneves might be a good choice. I don't think it's too spoilery to say there's a major time jump at one point, so that it feels more like you're getting 2 stories in one book. It happens at about 66% in the kindle version, which should work out to about 580 pages. That would give you a stop point, and a fresh related story to re-start on of another 300 or so. It's very suspenseful too, not in the same way as a usual thriller, but in a humanity vs. environment way.

Or you could try an omnibus edition book, with the first 2 or 3 of a series you're interested in, or a longer collection of short stories. :)

message 86: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 25 comments Nelson Demille is one of my favorite authors. The Charm School comes in ive 800 pages.

message 87: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 25 comments Ooops. Tried to edit my typo, ended up hitting Post instead! Anyway, The Charm School is over 800 pages and is so good I read it in two days! Also fulfills the espionage thriller prompt!

message 88: by Paige (new)

Paige Etheridge If I end up making it to this challenge I'd love to do The Memoirs of Cleopatra.

I haven't read that one yet (it is on my bookshelf though...), but I plan to read Word of Honor by DeMille for this prompt. I love his writing! I've read the first 5 books in the John Corey series as well as a couple of his stand alone novels.

message 90: by Miriam (last edited Feb 02, 2017 01:17AM) (new)

Miriam | 23 comments Does book mean that it actually has to be "one book", like only one story that's streched over so many pages, e,g. First Man in Rome or could it be a collection of books/stories collected into one volume?

Because I've Dante Valentine: The Complete Series sitting on my shelf for ages now and I was thinking to read it this year. Do you think I could make this count for this prompt. Or would you consider this cheating?

I'd go for it. The prompts are pretty much subject to your interpretation.

message 95: by Ramona (new)

Ramona Mead (ramonamead) | 24 comments I'm on the second book in the Outlander series so fortunately any of them count here!

message 96: by Chinook (new)

Chinook | 731 comments I read Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell for this one. The first 150 pages were a bit of a slow start but then it picked up. My IRL book club was reading it as well, which was a good kick in the ass to finish.

message 97: by Diana (new)

Diana | 2 comments The Goldfinch if you guys haven't read it yet, it is a must read, the most beautifully written book I encountered for a long long while.

message 98: by Ninna (last edited Feb 25, 2017 10:22AM) (new)

Ninna | 20 comments Okay, I have a question for this one. I am HOPING that GRRM finally finishes The Winds of Winter for this prompt (no way it's not going to be over 800 pages!) but I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with my daughter. My edition is only 752 pages but I picked up the hard cover version and it is 936 pages! Do you think I can count it for this prompt or is that cheating?

message 99: by Emanuel (new)

Emanuel | 253 comments It wiil be my last book, because I don't have one that I did't read yet, I need to buy one, and I thinking of4321, but if I can't buy it- the money is few I'll go with de 2 books parts of:O Medo do Homem Sábio - Parte 1

message 100: by Nikky (new)

Nikky Herschell | 97 comments I've managed to accidentally complete this one, I've been rereading jilly coopers books. Just finished Wicked! and that happened to be about 850 pages. Only realised when I entered the page I was on yesterday though haha
