I'm pretty sure that if you look "eccentric" in the dictionary, it has all of the twelve doctors' pictures next to it ^^ (Jack would probably work too)

Thanks for this rec. Gonna check it out!

Malaraa The Doctor & Jack are very definitely eccentric, that's why we all love them so much! :D

And I agree, that is really an excellent biography of Jim Henson. Had me laughing, and crying, and was really interesting the whole way through.

Samantha (weirdlibrarian) Would POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE by Carrie Fisher qualify??

message 55: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebecca_splain) | 27 comments Hi folks!

I had "A Man Called Ove" down for my Eccentric Character category because I had a few people recommend it, but I found myself hating it about half way into the book. I'm reading "The Storied Life of AJ Fikry" now and loving it. I could use it for the "character's name in the title" category, but I'm thinking both AJ and Amelia are pretty eccentric. Has anyone read the book and would they agree?

Pat Bryan | 61 comments "The Other Girl"-JPDonleavy-horrible book featuring a psychopatically "eccentric"man, two otherwise intelligent women who put up with him,and totally gross descriptions of fish being eaten alive....

Brenna (bhawleycraig) | 66 comments So i just finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and I was originally going to count that as one in a genre I'd never heard of before (mannerpunk), I want to do Lincoln in the Bardo for that instead. I was considering moving it to this prompt. Thoughts? I would call quite a few characters eccentric, starting with Mr. Norrell. Or I might move it to title with a character's name!

How about a book that's more than 800 pages?

I loved AJ Fikry! I read it for last year's challenge. AJ is definitely an eccentric character - Amelia not as much. I'd go with "quirky" for her.

message 62: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Just one eccentric character? The book I read is full of them, but it is set in a small Scottish village... and I think you have to be eccentric to live there.

The main character could not bear to see a book abandoned/thrown away and so her entire apartment is full of them.

The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan

message 63: by Maureen (new)

Maureen | 21 comments The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick -- eccentric man trying to unravel a mystery while grieving the loss of his wife. In my opinion this could also work for the travel prompt.

message 64: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 71 comments Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Willy Wonka is eccentric......

message 65: by Pioup (new)

Pioup | 54 comments I read Lucky Penny for this. Penny is a chronically unlucky young woman with a love for romance-novel-of-questionable-taste who lives in a storage unit, so I feel that qualifies :D

message 66: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (sjwthompson) | 36 comments I read Illusion by Annie Oldham. It is about a girl who finds out she's a Necromancer and that is why she's been eccentric her whole life.

message 67: by Toni (new)

Toni Gary | 8 comments Confederacy of Dunces !

message 68: by Carrie (new)

Carrie | 71 comments Vanessa and her Sister is about Virginia Woolf.

I'm going to go with this one for my eccentric character

message 70: by Keri (new)

Keri | 43 comments I read the book The Widow's House by Carol Goodman. There were multiple characters the were eccentric in the book. I have been in a reading slump lately for good books...I enjoyed this one enough that I can't wait until she releases another.

message 71: by Monica (last edited May 20, 2017 09:39AM) (new)

Monica (monica020) | 61 comments Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is full of eccentric characters. The Lady Chablis chief among them.

message 72: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 31 comments I'm reading Curious Minds Curious Minds (Knight and Moon, #1) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton for this category.

message 73: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Belden | 73 comments I read The Haunted Bookshop by Christopher Morley. I originally put this in my book with a red spine but the bookshop owner, Roger Mifflin is so eccentric I had to put the book in this category.

message 74: by Tina (new)

Tina (tinajm) | 80 comments I just finished this, and really enjoyed it! Could be because I'm also a bit of a curmudgeon. :) A Man Called Ove

message 75: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments I'm just over halfway through The Rosie Effect, and loving it!

message 76: by Sammy (new)

Sammy Reynolds | 9 comments I would suggest Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Willie Wonka or Alice in Wonderland for the Mad Hatter?

message 77: by Sammy (new)

Sammy Reynolds | 9 comments You could also go with basically any Terry Prachett book!

message 78: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Youll | 3 comments Has anyone read It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover? Are there any eccentric characters to fit this prompt?

message 79: by Naina (new)

Naina (naynay55) | 113 comments I read The Stranger in the Woods: The Extraordinary Story of the Last True Hermit for this prompt -- the hermit was definitely an eccentric character.
