One of the historical facts of this story involved Lucien Bonaparte and his son, Charles. Were you aware of his "exile" in England before this story?

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I wasn't aware of Lucien Bonaparte's existence at all, I confess. This was a new bit of historical information for me. It was nice to learn that Charles did in fact grow up to be an ornithologist. :-)

I wasn't either, Veronica! When Charles talked so knowledgeable about birds, I knew he had to be real and Googled him.

I'm really appreciating these books for having expanded my knowledge of an historical era I knew little about.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I knew a little about Lucien (probably from other Regency fiction), but not about Charles. I'm glad to hear he was able to follow his dream.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments I didn't know about the other Bonapartes either. The depth and breadth of Harris's research always impresses me.

Me, too!

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I like that she manages to work in more obscure bits of history into the books.

Mary Beth | 193 comments This part really confused me. It was over my head lol!

Joanna | 139 comments No. I love the way she involves non fictional characters with fictional; how she used Charles's love for birds and integrated it in the story.

Jasmine | 40 comments I loved the character of Charles and it was cool to look him up and find out about what happened to him as a grown up.
