Mark | 6 comments I seem to have two editions of my Kindle book edition:

Could this one be deleted: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

And this one remain:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
And be assigned the book's ASIN: B00DO30OGA

Sandra | 31627 comments No, Goodreads does not remove valid editions, even if a new cover has been created. It is against Policy.

People like to shelve the cover they bought. Think of Goodreads as a library and not a shop.

You might want to read the Author Instructions:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Mark | 6 comments But the problem is that I can't promote the new version as I can't apply the same ASIN to the new version. Very frustrating!

message 4: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31627 comments Well, that is Goodreads policy, and every other author has the same problem.

You can have the new cover be the default edition, see instructions - msg #4 above.

Mark | 6 comments Can I remove the ASIN from the other edition and move it to the new one?

message 6: by Mark (new)

Mark | 6 comments Can the ASIN be removed from the old version? Thanks

message 7: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments No policy is to keep the ASIN on the first edition

message 8: by Ayshe (new)

Ayshe | 3084 comments I reverted the ASIN switch.

When was the edition with the new cover released?
Note: The publication date for an alternate-cover edition should be the date the book was released with the new cover, not the date the book with that ISBN or ASIN was originally published.
They are currently showing the same date.

Mark | 6 comments Shouldn't the ASIN reflect the current Amazon edition - I think reverting to a previous version is inaccurate and nonsensical. By all means keep the previous edition there but no need for it to retain the ASIN as well - a number that relates to a retailers site where a newer version is now current. It also means I don't now want to advertise this edition via goodreads, which seems counter productive for goodreads.

Ayshe | 3084 comments No, according to the Librarian manual the only case where an ISBN or ASIN should be removed from a published edition is for Advance Readers Copies added with the ISBN number of the future published edition listed in the ISBN field.
