SPOILERS AHEAD
It's about a foster boy who hated being sent to any homes so he always ended up running away from their homes and back to the foster care facility he was from. I believe the book starts with him sitting in his room at his desks looking out the window at some kids climbing a wall/fence. He gets sent to another home that summer, and although he doesn't like the sound of that he still goes and actually happens to like the family a lot. I think the family had three kids. The oldest kid, a middle daughter around his age who takes a specific liking towards and another younger child. The girl shows him around to their farms and fields and he really likes it.
Somewhere at the end of the book they take a trip somewhere higher up in the hills but sometime along the way it gets really foggy and they get separated from the family. The girl injures her ankle jumping from a rock and because they can't see anything they end up spending the night by a statue of some sort.
The book ends with the boy being sent back because unfortunately (I think it had to do with an emergency with the mother or father. Something happened to one of their backs carrying the girl with the injured ankle back down) for some reason but this time around he runs away again back to the family and he discovers that they already knew he was going to come back to the family so they're waiting for him.
I apologize, I know this is very long and contains a lot of spoilers. I've been looking for years now and had no such luck I really hope someone is familiar with the book. I also apologize if there's thing in there that shouldn't be according to the guidelines, please let me know and I'll fix it. All help is greatly appreciated.
