I'll be reading Undertow, which is about mermaids. I saw the author at a YA book fest this fall and he..."
Undertow is a good choice, and if I hadn't already read it, I totally would've done it for this. However, I could NOT get into the sequel.

I'm a big fan of Neil Gaiman and love norse mythology so I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, and it didn't disappoint. I think I read it in 24 hours because I couldn't put it down :) I used it for the advanced "based on mythology" prompt, but it definitely works for the mythical creature prompt too.
Is American Gods a good fit for this prompt? I'd like to read it before the TV series begins, but if it doesn't work here I think I'll move it to the 'book by someone you admire' prompt.

I changed my pick from Fantastic Beasts book to Flame in the Mist. I didn't know this would have a mythical creature in it but it does! ;) And no, it's not a phoenix. lol
I am counting ghosts for this prompt. I won't say which book because it will ruin it for those that haven't read it. I scoured the comments to make sure I saw some that interpret it that same. Phew! I'm not big into mythical scifi fantasy things.
I read The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #4). This has been a very entertaining and well written series.
