Brandyn (brandy_k) | 82 comments I've had Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo penciled in for this topic since the beginning of the year. It's the sequel to Six of Crows which I read last year and one of the main characters has an unnamed disability that forces him to use a cane.

It occurred to me today that any of Bardugo's books fit this category because she has osteonecrosis - it's a degenerative bone disease.

Kirsten (kmcripn) I read Triptych by Karin Slaughter for this one.

One of the main characters has dyslexia. It's so bad that he can't really read anything. He keeps a recorder with him at all times. (How he managed to become a senior investigator in a career with that much paperwork is beyond me!)

Excellent mystery though!

Lynn Renee | 31 comments The Kept Woman by Karin Slaughter

The main character Will Trent is a detective with severe dyslexia. He is unable to read cursive writing at all which his dangerous estranged wife uses at every opportunity she can to demoralize and embarrass him.

Lindsey (lindseybo) | 30 comments Inside the O'brian's is what I think I'm going to read for this prompt

message 155: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin (katmoonchild) The main character of this book has Asperger's syndrome
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 643 comments I'm about a third of the way through Say What You Will. Great book so far.

Yorky Caz (yorkycaz) Nadine wrote: "Two series have books that fill this one:

Excellent Idea - I have been wanting to start this series for a while and now I know it ticks one of my categories even better!

Debbie (debbie13410) | 15 comments I recommend The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I read this in 2016 so I can't use it for the list. It is YA but it very good. It is about teenagers having to come to grips with mortality. Sad and enlightening.

message 159: by JoAnna (new)

JoAnna | 84 comments I read the book Wonder for this category.

message 160: by Deb (new)

Deb | 47 comments I stumbled upon The Journal of Best Practices: A Memoir of Marriage, Asperger Syndrome, and One Man's Quest to Be a Better Husband. I actually listened to the audiobook, which is read by the author, and enjoyed it. Interesting insights.

Jenna (jennascend) | 6 comments Really excited to read Zach Anner's book for this challenge: If at Birth You Don't Succeed: My Adventures with Disaster and Destiny

Chinook | 731 comments I loved Anner's book. It's really reflective.

message 163: by Bethany (new)

Bethany (bwidmayer77) | 5 comments Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin: The protagonist has High Functioning Autism.

message 164: by nx74defiant (new)

nx74defiant I heard an interview on the radio with this afternoon with Heather Gudenkauf. They talked about her book Not a Sound. It is a mystery. The main character losing her hearing in an accident. It sounded like a great option for this challenge.

message 165: by Mickey (new)

Mickey (liongoddess) | 29 comments I had never thought about Asperger's/Autism counting as a disability and I have it! I'm glad I read through this thread- it's given me several more books to read!

message 166: by Sam (new)

Sam (Sassyowlreads) (sassyowlreads) | 21 comments I think Flame of Sevenwaters would work for this. Maeve was horribly burned in a previous book in the series and no longer has the use of her hands.

message 167: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Belden | 73 comments I read Young Miles which is 3 books in one by Lois McMaster Bujold. Miles is born with brittle bones and his body does not grow to "normal" size. He lives in a society which destroys "mutants" at birth but his parents don't let this happen. This story is about Miles learning to excel in spite of his physical problems.

I'm really a fluffy and slightly smutty romance by Kimberley Kincaid called "Crossing Hearts" right now - one of the characters has multiple sclerosis.

message 169: by Jess (new)

Jess (theanswerisno) I loved "My Favorite Thing Is Monsters"! The author lost mobility after contracting West Nile Virus.

message 170: by Angela (new)

Angela Kocheshkova (my-irrelevant-self) hi guys. you think You're welcome, universe will do?

message 171: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) Books I read, that would fit this prompt:
All the Light We Cannot See 6* female MC lost her vision
Turn On the Light So I Can Hear 6* male MC was born deaf
Moby-Dick or, The Whale 2* Captain Ahab is missing a leg
Lincoln Rhyme Series male MC is quadrileptic - of the first 8 books in series I rated two 4* the other six 5*
A Gift for Chloe short story 3* secondary characters with Down syndrome
A Thousand Tomorrows / Just Beyond the Clouds both 5* - book 1: (view spoiler) / book 2: Down syndrome

Not yet read - but got recommended:
Unlocked male MC is autist (I hope it's the correct way to express it in English)
The Chairman, Henry & Harvard Hottie male MC are in a wheelchair
Me Before You male MC is quadrileptic
Stim both MCs have Asperger's Syndrome
Christmas Eva female MC is in a wheelchair
Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust
Fighting Silence male MC is loosing hearing

message 172: by Susan (new)

Susan (ofearna) I highly recommend the Nebula Award Winning novel The Speed of Dark The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon by Elizabeth Moon -- the main character is autistic... and it's a great book, even if I don't agree with the choice he makes at the end of the novel.

For Unlocked, it would be autistic or has autism. :)

message 174: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Groves | 57 comments I'm reading The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling). I hadn't planned to use it for this topic, but rather for a book by someone using a pseudonym, but decided to double dip since it's getting late in the year and I have a lot of unmet goals. The main character lost a leg in combat and uses a prosthesis, so I think it works here.
