Hi, I'd love for a beta reader to give me feedback on my romance novel, The Marriage Contract. It's 77,000 words and 22 chapters. It is almost complete. Summary:
In order to save a homeless shelter, a young woman agrees to a one year contract marriage to a spoilt heir, who must convince his dying Grandfather that he can settle down and stop his partying ways, or lose his inheritance for good.
After moving to the Big Apple to join a theatre program, life has been tough for twenty two year old Dorothy Web. While living with a mentally ill, purple haired roommate, working part time as a maid at the ritzy Hotel Bellevue, and juggling classes, everything feels hard to manage.
In walks James Bellevue, heir to hotel Bellevue, and a man who believes that the world is his personal island. James is in search of a girl that won't cling on to him, emotionally or financially, and to his luck, meets the sweet but feisty Dorothy. Knowing that a girl like her would never agree to his sudden proposal, he decides to give her a deal she can't refuse.
The homeless shelter that is like her second home, is in desperate need of money, or else it'll face demolition by the state. James promises Dorothy that if she can stay married to him for a full year, he will pay to keep that shelter open. All she has to do is sign the marriage contract and he will ensure that the shelter flourishes.
And so they elope.
Upon their first night, James and Dorothy write up the rules for their contract marriage, which includes "no kissing, no hugging, no sharing the bed, and under no circumstances, falling in love."
The story takes a turn when James's brooding twin- Richard, takes a liking to Dorothy, determined to steal her away. Little does James know that the competition to keep his first love, will be his own brother.
