5.2 - Location, Location, Location

Read a book set at least 50% in a location of an ancient wonder: Egypt, Iraq, Greece, Turkey.

Required: If the setting is not evident on the book's main page include a reference or quote from the book when you post.

Val | 435 comments I'm assuming a non-fiction book about Egypt such as this The Woman Who Would Be King: Hatshepsut's Rise to Power in Ancient Egypt would work.....? thanks

From FAQ
Can I read either fiction or nonfiction for a task?
Either fiction or nonfiction is fine, unless the task specifies that one or the other must be used.

Andy Plonka (plonkaac) | 4207 comments Does this one qualify as set in Greece? It takes place primarily on a cruise ship that visits several Greek Islands
A Cruise to Die For
Thanks,
Andy

It will work if at least 50% is set in Greece. If it's primarily set on a cruise ship, it probably doesn't work.

Jukka Särkijärvi (nitessine) | 718 comments While Egypt and Greece have been Egypt and Greece for basically ever, do books set in Turkey and Iraq have to be set specifically in the countries called Turkey and Iraq, or would any historical tale set in the right area of, say, the Abbasid Caliphate or Ottoman Empire work? For some reason, I have a far easier time finding a book about Constantinople than Istanbul.

books set in the areas that are now known as Turkey and Iraq work - just provide a reference in your post (preferably not TMBG).

Kate (kathrynlouwca) | 1002 comments On the main page of The Honey is Bitter you can see it has a main page genre of Cultural>Greece. I read this in my teenage years and know this was set on a Greek Island. Is the main page genre enough for the location verification, or do I need to look for a quote?

the main page genre is enough, but be sure to point out in your post that it's at least 50% set in Greece.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Can I just double-check that Birds, Beasts, and Relatives and The Garden of the Gods would be okay for Greece - they're parts two and three of Gerald Durrell's "Corfu Trilogy" https://www.goodreads.com/series/6583... (Corfu being described as a Greek Island in the Ionian Sea). Thanks.
