PaperMoon | 674 comments Last year, I read Steve Neil Johnson's first of his L.A. After Midnight quartet The Yellow Canary and was thoroughly impressed with the plot, the pacing and especially the MC closeted district prosecutor Paul Winters. I think it was Jax who brought this series to my attention so thank you!

I became very invested in what would happen to Winters by the book's end ... especially given the difficult position he was placed in, and in the context of being outed in mid-1950s. The plan was for each of this quartet to be featured progressively a decade further along Paul's life (as well as gay life in general within the city of L.A.).

Aaaand ta-dah! Paul Winters in back - the author has released book 2 of the series over on Amazon entitled "The Black Cat" and as predicted, this second book is set in the '60s. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. Guess what I will be reading tonight despite assignment deadlines and family obligations?

Aussie54 | 322 comments I did some Googling, and found a review of one of his earlier books at JesseWaves'site: http://www.reviewsbyjessewave.com/201...

Not sure if you knew of his other books. It's a shame they're all only available through limited publishers.

I do have his Doug Orlando books on my TBR list. Have you read them or The Yellow Canary??

And was it you Aussie54 by-chance to have mentioned this series last year?

Aussie54 | 322 comments No, I doubt it would've been me, as I haven't read any of his books. Looks like Jax is the one. I posted as Gaycrow at JesseWaves' and wanted a different publisher. :(

I'm getting mixed up LOL. I think you gave me the heads-up on the Dan Sharp mysteries.

That could've been me, I have read the first Dan Sharp mystery, but didn't know there was a new one! I'm a bit slow these days.

Jax | 990 comments Yay! Thanks for alerting me to the next installment of the LA After Midnight series. I read used paperbacks of his Doug Orlando series in 2008 & was so glad to see he was back writing again with The Yellow Canary. I'm relieved this series is not being abandoned by the author. (I've read several book 1s without any siblings added to the family.)

Yes - there is. Pumpkin Eater: A Dan Sharp Mystery came out recently and The Jade Butterfly: A Dan Sharp Mystery is scheduled for release next year.
