Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments In 2014, we compiled our very own top 100 Fiction list. Since then, we have new members, and of course, have collectively read slews more books!

I would like to update our list to keep it current.

We will use a multi-step process. First, we will determine which books should potentially be removed from the list to make way for new ones. Any book that receives 6 or more votes for removal will be considered for elimination from the list.

Then, members will be given an opportunity to nominate one new book to add to the list. These nominees plus those being considered for elimination will be voted upon to create our new 2017 PBT 100 Fiction list.

Any books eliminated during this process will be demarcated on our Shelf so they are not lost, but they will no longer be considered part of the current PBT Top 100.

To get us started, use the following link to indicate up to TEN books that you would like to see removed from the current list in order to make way for new books.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SJMK6PX

Please do not select more than 10 because if you do, I will have to delete your survey, contact you, and have you redo it. You may select LESS than 10 if you desire.

My goal is to complete this process by the end of December, so let's make the deadline for this first portion be November 27th.

Administrators are eligible to participate in this process.

Karin | 9255 comments Argh! I only voted for 3 and would have voted for more to be removed. I read too quickly and mixed up the 3 votes against with how many I could do.

Wow, what a fool I was!

I can delete your submission and let you do it again. Let me know!

message 4: by Susie (new)

Susie Done. It was hard to let some great books go, but there are so many exceptional books!

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments AJ wrote: "There are still so many I haven't read!"

Lol - - well don't worry. They won't actually be going anywhere. Just "archived" onto a former PBT 100 shelf. . .

Jennifer Pope (jenjunum) | 902 comments Tricky task! I kind of want to nominate Constellation, but only to be replaced by Tsar! Don't want to risk losing Marra!

There can be more than one book by an author on the list, so don't vote for removing books that you truly like.

message 8: by Joi (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments Man, I feel like I haven't read enough of them to judge whether they should/should not be on the list!

message 9: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12956 comments I picked four to eliminate that I definitely read but didn't think belonged in a top 100.

message 10: by Red52 (new)

Red52 Done. And I could have picked more!

Don't worry, I feel the same way. LOL!

I only put a vote for ones I've read that I think could be removed and they were books I didn't like or didn't like much. But as I mentioned, I forgot I could vote for up to 10.

message 13: by annapi (new)

annapi | 5505 comments Done. I only picked 7 since there were so many I hadn't read yet.

message 14: by Rachel N. (new)

Rachel N. | 2250 comments Done. I ended up picking 9. Mostly ones I have read and either felt didn't need to be on the list or I voted to remove an author who in my opinion has too many entries on the list. I still plan on reading this original list plus whatever we add to it.

Nicole | 690 comments I voted to remove books that I may have liked a lot, but didn't think they were of Top 100 quality. (e.g. Hunger Games)

message 16: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8450 comments Well one selection was easy - Maus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History or should that be The Complete Maus ... whichever ...
It's nonfiction, and on our PBT 100 NONfiction list as well.

message 17: by Susie (new)

Susie I agree about The Hunger Games. I loved it, but I don't think it's Top 100 worthy.

message 18: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Done. I voted for 5. I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I loathed Animal Farm and I didn't like the other four.

message 19: by Denizen (new)

Denizen (den13) | 1138 comments Where is the PBT top 100 list? I couldn't find it and I have already voted for removals so Survey Monkey won't let me see it. I want to make sure my suggestion isn't already on the list.

Go to the PBT bookshelf. There's a 'shelf' for it if you look at the list on the left side of the page.

Let us know that you were able to find the list on our group shelf, Denizen. If you are struggling, I'm happy to provide step by step directions!

Thanks, Anita. I searched the threads but never thought about checking the bookshelf. I found it easily.

message 23: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments oh yay, Denizen! Happy

message 24: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments to hear that!

dang app

message 25: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1545 comments I picked 7. With only 100 to keep on the list, I don't think we need to have multiple books by the same author.

message 26: by AsimovsZeroth (new)

AsimovsZeroth (asimovszerothlaw) | 436 comments Boy that was difficult. I managed 10, but only by eliminating a lot of good books that I feel everyone has already heard about a million times.

message 27: by Mary (new)

Mary B | 131 comments I chose some books I remember liking but don't remember, a couple I was meh on, and one I loathed (you all know what it is).

message 28: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marniehudak) | 141 comments I think I voted for 5. I don't know maybe it would be an easier decision if we had a separate list for "Classics". I love a lot of fiction and the books are wonderful but they can't stand up to a Lolita, Pride & Prejudice etc.

It would be easier. While there are a few contemporary novels that can stand up to the classics, much of what we like now we like because it's contemporary. The classics we have now have stood the test of time, although I have to say I loathe some of those classics, but who likes them all?

message 30: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marniehudak) | 141 comments I agree! Contemporary fiction is different and hard to weigh against timeless classics. There are definitely some I do not care for at all though.

message 31: by Anita (last edited Nov 18, 2016 01:03PM) (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments Wow, so far, slightly more than half the books on the list were nominated for removal by 3 or more members!

Don't worry, you'll be able to vote for your favorites to remain, but I do expect we will have quite a few slots to fill with new nominees!

Can't wait to see which books stay, which go, and which new ones take their place.

Just to throw a bone to the curious, I don't think The Hunger Games is going to hang around . . .

Interesting. Now I'm wondering which books those are.

message 34: by Susie (new)

Susie I'm excited to see the list!

message 35: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9301 comments Voting starts tomorrow! You will have the chance to weigh in on the removal of books and the addition of new ones.
