Daemon question

A friend is looking for a book she first read 1994-1999. Some of the key words and points are*** daemons, red light distric, cave or underground, carving up a girls fingers and carry the fingers possibly girl around in backpack, rafting or kayaking and a guy screaming from being cut up but the darmon just wanted to give him wings. If this sounds familiar please help. Thanks.
